The difference could be due to various head ends/areas, as indicated in post 11, and by the obvious difference in programming between post 9 and 12.

Please put your location and service provider into your UserCP Profile (location). As you can see, this information can be helpful.

I've scanned the forum but haven't seen an answer to this question yet
Really? Please read the link in posts 2, 11 and 32 of this thread, along with earlier posts in this thread. In most areas, the HD channels that people wish to see are encrypted.

Your post was moved to this existing thread on the topic, which was right next to the new thread you created in the Cogeco forum. Please read the link in post 2 of this thread, as well as other posts in this thread. Some of the channels you mentioned were on free preview and therefore unencrypted while on free preview.

Then check out the following post, useful for those new to the forum - FAQs, Search Tips, Optimization, etc:

You could purchase a separate QAM tuner to get the channels you currently get on your TV via the QAM tuner, but realize they could be encrypted/changed at any time. Also Cogeco could add an analogue filter and you'd get roughly analogue channels 2-6...

No "cable boxes" will work (save analogue), except for the ones from Cogeco or their authorized distributors and it'd need to be activated by Cogeco and you'd need to pay for TV.

For QAM channels, please read the posts earlier in this thread, starting at post 2 and the link there regarding QAM. QAM is for unencrypted cable and the channels you'd get would depend on your exact location, as discussed in this thread. These channels could disappear at any time from a QAM tuner if Cogeco decides to encrypt them.

ATSC is for OTA (over the air) and you'd need an antenna to receive OTA. Please check out the OTA forum here if that interests you and start with the stickies because there's lots of info for OTA, along with reception results for your location.

If you're tuning the other channels mentioned in this thread, then my guess would be that Cogeco is encrypting those channels in your area. If you take the time to read through this thread you'll find that the unencrypted channels vary by location.

The other possibility is that those channels are weak and not being tuned, or there is a filter on your line blocking certain signals. It used to be that filters were only there to block analogue signals, however many providers now have filters that do more.

You'll need to get a digital STB(s) (or adaptor) as discussed in the following thread:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=136537

For the Sony DVR here's the hookup FAQ: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=76077

You can still use the antenna connection and "add in" the STB connections - for example via composite or S-video plus analogue audio and programme the DVR accordingly for the channel or input desired. It's pretty cumbersome, but it works. Strongly suggest you consider a Cogeco PVR instead since that will allow for HD recording and a much simpler system.

If you wish to discuss the adaptor, STB, etc, please use the first link in this post. If you wish to discuss QAM, please use this thread.

Let's stick to the topic.

If you want to discuss the adaptors, use the adaptor/digital switch thread (first link in post 93).

If you want to discuss CableCARD, use the various CableCARD threads where the issue has been discussed to death.

As discussed in the FAQ link in post 2 of this thread, Cogeco is simply doing what all the major Cable Companies (and satellite) have done for years - encrypted all/most of their digital channels.

This thread is to discuss the channels that are available in the clear on QAM. Future off-topic posts will be deleted.
