I have connected a new TV and used component cables for the 8300HD connection so that I could get the closed captioning displayed when I press MUTE. Long ago I was told by Rogers that it only works with component cables and I had an HDMI connection to the 8300HD.

I look at the CLOSED CAPTIONING under QUICK SETTINGS and I only have two options ON/OFF and the ON WITH MUTE is not there. Rogers CSR told me to power off/on the 8300HD and if it does not appear then take the box in for repair to the Cable Shoppe since I own it.

Also, I cannot get both the old-style four button remote control (my preference) or the new five-button remote to control the TV volume through the 8300HD, I have to press the volume button repeatedly to increase. The Rogers CSR told me to have it replaced.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I now have "hold and increase" non-quantized volume controlling the cable box using the "new" five-button remote that has ROD and other such keys that I don't need. The 8300HD is connected via component and with analogue audio cables, the volume is set to "variable" to see and set the "CC on mute" and I entered code 993.

Geez ... if I followed Rogers CSR advice I'd be taking the 8300HD to the Cable Shoppe for repair, wonder how much that would have cost?

The new TV is a 55" LED Samsung ... had to replace the old 40" LCD Samsung due to severe clouding and also had the bulging capacitors in the power supply one month after warranty expired. I thought I would never buy another Samsung but there sits another one... and now I have real black and an amazing picture. I sure hope the clouding/mura does not develop in this new Samsung.

What I really want to do is have the same non-quantized volume on the AT8400 remote because it is tactile in the dark and has no extraneous keys and I am very used to it. I am still searching for a code that will hopefully work but have not found one yet.

OK 993 worked for this TV, AT8400 now works fine probably would not be able to program it to control the 8300HD if I used HDMI cables.

Thanks very much for your help, it is really appreciated!
