...And overwhemingly chose iPhone. I wish I could dump my clumsy old Blackberry 9700 for an iPhone or Android device. Hopefully this CIO's approach catches on.

...and got rid of company-issued Blackberries while letting workers choose between an iPhone or Android or Window Phone 7-powered smartphone. The company has issued 2,000 smartphones, 92% of which are iPhones. About 6% of the smartphones chosen were Android-based while 2% were Windows Phone 7 devices.

No one said the company would let them switch back.

I'm saying that if BB is a superior product then users will start to gravitate back to BB after they experience the alternative.
I know carrier support for handsets is 100% better then it was 5 years ago, but the reason I bring up IT becoming overloaded is because as an employee, even though I know who are carrier is... I can't just bring my phone to the carrier. I have to hand it over to our IT tech and its up to him from there. If I could walk into my carriers store and have them fix the problems I would. But corporate policy dictates that the only thing any employee can do with a company mobile device, is bring it to the internal IT department only. That is my reason for saying IT departments will get slammed. JMHO.

Compared to...

A company picks one OS platform to go with, and that IT tech.. knowing the one platform, can more often then not fix the issue himself... not by going to carriers because the have to support the products they sell.

Maybe its just me, and maybe I'm old school but...

"If it ain't broke... Don't fix it"
