Try holding OK until the HD LED blinks then hitting Volume Down or Channel Down - depending on the remote and version it may vary slightly. I work for a service provider that uses these units for our IPTV product... the only way I know how to check the version is in that menu or from the head-end =p

Essentially, i was hoping to find a way to turn off audio output to the hdmi, as I am using the optical out for audio, and my tv (sharp lc46se94u) shows a message about an "incompatible audio signal", (5.1), whenever i change channels on hd. Yes, I know i could run component cables, it just requires re-runs through the wall, and I want to use that as a last resort, bla, bla, bla...

incompatible audio signal on sharp TV

I'm receiving the same issue with my Sharp Aquos TV with regards to 'incompatible audio signal'... hdmi for video plugged into TV and optical cable for audio. The settings menu through the mediaroom does not work and MAYBE the advnaced menu will work, don't know.

At the end of the day and the question should really be this. What is the fix to this issue? I have both cables plugged in as said above and still haveing the issues!

thanks!

This is just one of the reasons TELUS does NOT support HDMI for OPTIK or TELUS TV.

Just use a component cable and a TOSLINK (optical audio) cable and you'll be fine.

I've tried to work around the problem you've mentioned on several installations, because customers have HDMI cables fished through the walls to their 'over the fireplace TV' but they want to use their reciever for the 5.1 and I haven't found a solution. When you plug in the HDMI you can't get the sound to work properly on the reciever via optical cable if the sound is also on the TV via HDMI. My problem installations were all with recievers without HDMI inputs. If you connect the STB to the reciever using an HDMI cable and then to the TV from the reciever using an HDMI cable you won't get this problem. I have a 330 connected to a Denon HDMI surround reciever then from the reciever to a 40" Sony Bravia and I get great sound from the reciever with no sound from the TV. I've also been fortunate enough to not have any digital artifacts from the HDMI use. Some customers with different setups aren't as fortunate. This is why TELUS doesn't support HDMI.

This isn't an elegant solution, and I've never tried it, but you can get 2 HDMI cables, 2 HDMI/DVI converters, and a DVI coupler. Converting to DVI to HDMI removes the audio, since DVI doesn't carry audio. Convert it back to HDMI for the connection to your TV. It's a lot easier if your TV happens to have a DVI input - mine does, but it's a few years old. Another option is to use the optical out on your TV to connect to your amp... but that would also require running another cable through the wall.

Actually, looking at monoprice, they have "HDMI Male to DVI-D Female Adapter" and "DVI-D Single Link Male to HDMI Female adapter" for a total of $4.64. AFAIK, combining these two would strip the audio out, but you might want to buy locally from somewhere where it can be returned if it doesn't work.

-Telus tech, my views are my own.

I'm not sure what you're looking for in the advanced menu. On Optik, to see the version of Mediaroom, etc.

Press Menu > Settings > General > System Information
I appreciate that Telus doesnt want us poking around in the advanced menu of their PVR. Can someone confirm what settings/functions live in the advanced menu?

I was wondering (hoping) if there were any additional video settings in the AM that go beyond the ability to select the aspect ratio....

HDMI and OPTICAL sound

I take the OPTICAL out of PVR to my Pioneer [1997 Elite with THX] receiver/amp OPTICAL in for OPTIK TV audio only. It displays reception of 5.1 signals on HD TV programmes.

My Sony XBR TV is connected via HDMI on one of it's inputs and it becomes essentially a monitor with its audio volume turned off.

The TV thinks it is getting normal HDMI signal.

I have none of the afore mentioned problems using this set up.

PS. My old Sony Bravia and SD box is HDMI/DVI connected using it's internal sound.
No problems.
My 22 inch Sony with SD box also HDMI connected using internal sound.
No problems.

williabe,

As DrDave said, there is no "advanced menu" in Mediaroom. What you see when you press menu is all there is.

We (techs) have codes that we enter to get to diagnostic functions from certain places within the menu. Those codes are restricted to techs only. In every case the information gleaned from these diagnostics would be either meaningless or useless to anyone but a tech. None of these codes make changes to the STB, all are for diagnostic info gathering only.

All audio control options are to be found in the menu/settings/audio section.

Video options are aspect ratio and resolution. Aspect ratio is found using the "options" button on the remote, resolution is found in menu/settings/television.

If you are getting "lots of lost packets or discontinuities", it's most likely a line issue beyond your control. There's a possibility that it could be a wiring problem in your home, so you could check that before calling Telus.

The chances that the problem is with the cis430 are almost negligible.
