I've noticed that when two of Shaw's HD channels are showing the same program, sometimes one of the channels becomes swapped for the other. For example, if Global HD and CBS HD are both showing Survivor, then the CBS channel is no longer viewable, as both the Global and CBS channels show Global content.

Is this normal? I'm not sure if there's a proper term for this, so I've not been able to find discussions on this topic.

It only effects HD customers who have the HD feed of their local market carrying the same program. Lucky for me there is no Local HD programming, so no sim-subs here.

Added note to the above post. It has to be Over The Air for Shaw to have to simsub it. For example. CTV here in Edmonton has an HD station but its not OTA yet. Telus carries it, Shaw still carries the Toronto feed. Its optional until it goes OTA.

Which is good because I think CTV has the rights to the superbowl and the past 3 years I've enjoyed not getting stuck with the simsub version.
