In Las Vegas this week, Canon unveiled nine Vixia High Definition flash memory camcorders and three standard definition camcorders.

The 2010 high-definition lineup includes Canon’s flagship VIXIA HF S-series, the compact VIXIA HF M-series and a new entry-level VIXIA HF R-series.



New features include: a new EasyTouch LCD Panel with an advanced tracking feature which Canon claims can help keep any subject in focus and properly exposed, even in a busy scene; improvements to its image stabilization system ; and an HD-to-SD down conversion feature allowing video to be more easily be uploaded to the web or burned onto DVDs.

Each model employs a Canon HD Video Lens, HD CMOS Image Sensor, and the firm's proprietary DIGIC DV III Image Processor. Canon says its processor and sensor combination have been improved to reduce noise under low-light conditions and more accurately reproduce purples and blues.

Vixia HF S-series

The Canon Vixia HF S21, HF S20 and HF S200 Flash Memory camcorders are Cano’s premiere camcorders featuring 1920 x 1080 HD video recording capabilities, Native 24p (AVCHD) recording, 10X HD Video lens, a 3.5-inch (922,000-dot) Touch Panel LCD screen two SD card slots for increased storage capacity and easy video transfer.

The Vixia HF S21, HF S20 and HF S200 Flash Memory camcorders are scheduled to be available in Canada in April, and will sell for $1450, $1150 and $1050 respectively.

Vixia HF M-series:

The Canon Vixia HF M31, HF M30 and HF M300 Flash Memory camcorders featuring 1920 x 1080 HD video recording capabilities, 2.7-inch Touch Panel LCD with Touch & Track technology, Smart Auto, Powered IS and Advanced Video Snapshot. In addition, the HF M31 and HF M30 models both include Canon’s Relay Recording and HD-to-SD down conversion.

The HF M31, HF M30 and HF M300 Flash memory camcorders are scheduled to be available in Canada in April for $900, $800 and $770 respectively.

Vixia HF R-series

The Canon HF R11, HF R10 and HF R100 entry level flash memory camcorders feature featuring 1920 x 1080 HD video recording capabilities. The HF R11 and HF R10 models incorporate 32GB and 8GB of internal flash memory, respectively, and the HF R10 records directly to an SD memory card. All three models also include a Canon 20x HD Video Lens, Dynamic IS, Smart Auto and Advanced Video Snapshot. Both the VIXIA HF R11 and VIXIA HF R10 feature Canon’s Relay Recording and HD-to-SD Downconversion.

Vixia SD Camcorders

The Vixia HF R11, HF R10 and HF R100 Flash Memory camcorders will be available in Canada in March for an estimated retail price of $750, $600 and $550 respectively.

In addition to the new high definition camcorders, Canon is also introducing three standard-definition camcorders, the FS30, FS31, and FS300 Flash Memory camcorders. The Canon FS30 records to 8GB of internal flash memory and the FS31 model records to 16GB of internal flash memory, while the FS300 records video directly to an SD memory card.

The Canon FS31, FS30 and FS300 camcorders will be available in Canada in March for $400, $350 and $330 respectively.
