Although this transition from all college sports to "all sports" will be gradual (probably starting with the upcoming fall season), isn't this reason enough for cable companies like Rogers to switch to the much more robust ESPN college channel, "ESPN U"?
If the intention in adding "CBS College Sports" was to provide a pure college sports channel, this no longer meets that criteria and ESPNU does.

As seen below, the news release mentions utilizing CBS' other assets to eventually be an active part of the channel:
CBS Sports (replays of NFL games?)
Showtime Sports (live boxing and MMA, NASCAR, NFL and MLB shows)
MaxPreps.com (high school sports)

They have already been carrying some motorsports, and that now looks set to be increasing.

I guess Bell and Rogers don't seem to care about a U.S. mainstream sports channel as long as it would have replacement programming when the U.S. feed had something that was on TSN or Sportsnet? It's getting more difficult to argue that CBS Sports Network is okay for Canada, but ESPN, Fox, and NBC sports channels are not.

Specific to the statement above, Rogers can never the channel with ESPN branding. ESPN is minority owner of TSN. Therefore, ESPN brand in Canada belongs through TSN to its owner, Bell Media.
