On September 1st, the day after the transition from analog to digital over-the-air (OTA) signals in Canada, Digital Home readers in Atlantic Canada began complaining that their local CBC high definition channel had stopped broadcasting in HD.

The problem affected the CBC Over-the-Air (OTA) signal as well as the CBC signal distributed to customers of Bell Aliant and Rogers.

Now after seven weeks, Digital Home has learned the high defintion signal back on air, much to the relief of Hockey Night in Canada fans.

A CBC rep told Digital Forum readers the problem was due to difficulties the corporation was having implementing a new automation system to support all the new HD signals.

When the problem occurred, CBC had to revert to the old standard definition version which led to some undesirable aspect ratios and poor picture quality.
