Can i use a shaw direct oval dish to pull CBC feeds off of ANIK1? Or do I need to be using a 33"+ dish?

How often are the CBC feeds available on ANIK?

I don't check personally that much, since I get CBC OTA.
But from what I hear the few feeds that may show up there are almost always in 4:2:2 Chroma. Which means most cheap receiver's won't play it.
But ya can still play it with a PC Based Tuner using the right video codecs.

You should be fine receiving the CBC feeds off Anik F1R using either a 60cm or 75cm Shaw Direct dish. However, the signal might be a bit weak on the 60cm dish.

The 6 feed transponders are being used for English or French news and at least one of them is active. From time to time, these feed transponders are also used for live sports as well such as hockey.

As already noted by majortom, these feeds use the 4:2:2 chroma format so you will need a receiver that supports this. Currently in the market, only the AzBox brand of HD receivers or a DVB card installed in your computer with the appropriate software codecs installed support receiving 4:2:2 chroma feeds.

Granted, you could also use a professional rackmount receiver such as Tandberg to receive these feeds as well but these cost several thousand dollars.
Another option is to Record it with any STB that has PVR functionality (doesn't need to have 4:2:2 capability to record it, just to play it).
assuming you can move the recording from receiver to PC, you can then play the files with an Application like VLC (Videolan). I've done that for CBS a few times which also uses 4:2:2 chroma for most of it's HD feeds on C-Band.
Excellent.

So I need to do is find an used 75 cm shaw direct dish. Align dish. Then get a receiver with 4:2:2 format. (for CBC feeds)

Other FTA channels still on F1?

A little off topic, but someone else was asking about the CBAND CBS feeds.
Here's some info from lyngsat. CBS HD Feeds are found
here
http://www.lyngsat.com/galaxy28.html

and here
http://www.lyngsat.com/galaxy19.html

As mentioned 4:2:2 Chroma and DVB-S2 8PSK, so a decent C-Band dish is recommended.

Other than the CBC feeds, those channels are DCII, not DVB. An un-subbed Shaw Direct receiver should get them.
=/\
Shaw Box? Noooo!

Thanks,
