As well, NHL Network will air 40 games.

Ring: I think poster was thinking that if TSN had a ton of games it might hurt # of subs to NHLCI. "They" in the post isn't TSN, it is the NHL. "They (NHL) want hardcore fans to pony up for NHLCI" is probably what the poster meant.

41 Maple Leafs games on national English language TV. That is half of their games. Can you imagine if half of all Yankees games were on ESPN, Fox or TBS; or half of all Lakers games were on TNT, ABC or ESPN?

I bet Sportsnet regrets selling TSN that 7 game package, or whatever it was, now they don't have NBA rights.

That doesn't include the games on Rogers Sportsnet (28 games)

so 41 (CBC and TSN) + 28 (Rogers Sportsnet) = 69 GAMES + 13 Games on LEAFS TV = 82 GAMES REGULAR SEASON GAMES ... Plus 9 Pre-Season Games on LEAFS TV = 91 TOTAL GAMES THIS SEASON FOR THE LEAFS ON TV, WOW!!!

Teams like Florida, Tampa, Columbus, Phoenix, etc wish they had all their games televised on TV like some, lol.

HD hockey

ReidW: I believe only CBC and TSN will be airing games in HD (this includes TSN2). Or at least those are the only HD channels carrying hockey games in my area.

Does anyone know if Leafs TV (NHL Centre Ice) is planning on getting an HD feed to us outside of Toronto? Even if its just to change the format (like cheapo Global has done recently) it would be an improvement. Then I might consider signing up for it again.

I just joined this forum. I have used it countless times for info. Great site so I decided to join and see if I could chime in with some help now and then.

Hugh...thanks for the Broadcast schedules.

GO LEAFS GO

Sportsnet should air some games in HD. NBC will air all of their games in HD as well.

CBC should do two games a week in HD, maybe even three. Whatever game is the national early game, as well as the national late game. As for TSN in their press release they said all games will be in HD thus year.

For the first time in network history, all regular season games will feature at least one Canadian team and will be available nationally in High Definition on TSN HD.

I suspect at the start of the season the breakdown of games will be 50/50 national vs regional for the Habs and the Leafs however by March one team or the other will get the limelight depending on their respecitive situations. It won't be necessarily the team at the top of the standings. Rather it will be the team fighting for a crucial playoff spot (more drama to the story).

Looking at the Oilers schedule, Sportsnet carries a lot of them, but not many seem to be in HD. Last year, they were using the alternate Sportsnet HD feed on Shaw to do this. How is this going to work this year?

Can't wait to have regional HD channels for Sportsnet. Rexall place is already setup for HD, but because of the Sportsnet's license, they can't air regional games on their only HD channel, whcih is national.

So if my math is right...

TSN = 79 games
TSN2 = 34 games
NHLN = 40 games
CBC = 68 timeslots
NBC = 7 (3 more NBC games on both NBC and TSN)
Total = 228

Even if 8 TSN/TSN2 games conflict, which some do, you can watch 200 NHL games, without Centre Ice. That's not including local broadcasts. That's why Centre Ice isn't worth it.

Centre Ice is only worth it if you want to see every game for a particular team as it fills in the "non-broadcast" gaps or if you insist on a game or more every night (the latter is a recipe for divorce). Otherwise CBC+TSN+NBC etc. pretty well can give every fan their hockey fix.

1,000 games >200 games

$200 is very much worth it to me. I like the freedom to watch SJ vs ANA if I want or Philly vs TB or even CHI vs STL. Last year I watched a lot of SJ games they are a fun team to watch. Plus I can watch Crosby, Ovechkin & the Stamkios(sp?) kid anytime I want to. Philly vs Fla is always fun has well cuz philly gets owned by that team.

These games have been added to the TSN schedule, maybe people here are not aware of this yet.
Sun, Jan. 18 -- NY Rangers at Pittsburgh, 12:30pm
Mon, Feb. 2 -- St. Louis at Detroit, 7 pm
Mon, Feb. 9 -- NY Rangers at New Jersey, 7 pm
Tue, Feb. 10 -- San Jose at Boston, 7 pm
Mon, Mar. 2 -- Colorado at NY Islanders, 7 pm
Tue, Mar. 3 -- Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay, 7:30 pm
Sun, Mar. 15 -- TBA (flex schedule), 12:30 pm
Mon, Mar. 23 -- New Jersey at Philadelphia, 7 pm
Mon, Mar. 30 -- New Jersey at NY Rangers, 7 pm
Sun, Apr. 12 -- TBA (flex schedule), 2 pm

The January 18, March 15 and April 12 games are NBC games.

If there is any team I don't see the need of Centre Ice for it is the Leafs. I can understand US teams I suppose. I usually just watch whatever is on.
