CBC introduces MOVIE NIGHT IN CANADA, Saturdays at 7 p.m.

In response to the postponement of the NHL season due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, CBC will be hosting MOVIE NIGHT IN CANADA, a celebration of acclaimed Canadian films back-to-back on Saturday evenings beginning at 7 p.m. (8 AT, 8:30 NT) on CBC and CBC Gem. MOVIE NIGHT IN CANADA kicked off this past Saturday with the double bill of BON COP, BAD COP and its sequel BON COP, BAD COP 2, and will continue with the schedule to date as outlined below (subject to change). CBC will air the first 2 episodes of HEY LADY! Friday at 8:00 and 8:30 PM. The eight-part CBC original comedy was released on Gem in February.

CBC PARTNERS WITH HOT DOCS TO LAUNCH A FESTIVAL-AT-HOME EXPERIENCE FOR AUDIENCES ACROSS CANADA WITH “HOT DOCS AT HOME ON CBC”

Following the postponement of the 2020 Hot Docs Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a selection of exclusive first-run feature documentaries that would have debuted at the Festival will now premiere on CBC, the free CBC Gem streaming service and documentary Channel each Thursday starting April 16, with film and schedule details below. CBC and Hot Docs will also partner to expand the at-home audience experience with interactive, livestreamed Q&As with filmmakers and other original digital content at CBC Docs. In addition to these exclusive 2020 Hot Docs Festival premiere films, documentary Channel will offer an expanded Hot Docs programming slate from April 16 to May 10, showcasing feature-length documentaries from past Festivals.

Initial schedule for Thursday, April 16 - Thursday, May 28 (programming will continue past May 28, more details to be announced in the coming weeks) A complete list of 2020 Hot Docs Festival selections will be announced by Hot Docs on April 14.

CBC today announced that CANADA READS 2020 will convene Monday, July 20 to Thursday, July 23, following its postponement in March due to COVID-19. The Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) and CBC Sports announced the full schedule of games for the CEBL Summer Series, which will be the first live professional sports action in Canada since the COVID-19 outbreak in March. CBC will broadcast seven games on television starting with the opening-day doubleheader at 1:30 p.m. ET (10:30 a.m. PT) on Saturday, July 25. CBC Sports will live stream all 26 games of the Summer Series on the free CBC Gem streaming service, cbcsports.ca, and the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices. (Press Release)
