CBC will bolster its slate of award-winning news, investigative and documentary programming with the launch of a new investigative program hosted by Diana Swain, which will take Canadians behind the scenes for a closer look at the process of investigative journalism. CBC journalist Peter Armstrong will host a reimagined business show. Returning flagship titles include news and investigative programsTHE NATIONAL, MARKETPLACE (season 44) andthe fifth estate (season 42), thought-provoking documentary series FIRSTHAND (season 2) and David Suzuki's THE NATURE OF THINGS (season 56).

Following the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer, CBC Sports will build on its commitment to promote and elevate high-performance sport and athletes in Canada with expanded coverage leading into the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. In addition to events such as FIS ski and snowboard and IBSF bobsleigh and skeleton, CBC Sports has signed a new three-year agreement for exclusive Canadian coverage of ISU figure skating and speed skating.

ACADEMY AWARD WINNER ANNA PAQUIN TO STAR IN CBC AND NETFLIX MINISERIES ALIAS GRACE

Margaret Atwood's Alias Grace began shooting in Ontario on August 15, 2016. The six-hour mini-series will be broadcast in Canada on CBC and globally - everywhere outside of Canada - on Netflix.


Netflix Teams with Northwood Entertainment on New TV Series ANNE, Based On The Novel "Anne of Green Gables"

Netflix and CBC are joining forces with Northwood Entertainment for the dramatic television series ANNE, based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's timeless classic novel Anne of Green Gables. CBC greenlit the eight-episode, one-hour series earlier this year. The show will stream globally on Netflix and be broadcast in Canada on CBC in 2017.

STILL STANDING has been renewed for a third season (13 x 30). Production is currently underway. BARONESS VON SKETCH SHOW (6 x 30) has been renewed for season 2 (7 x 30) and will begin production this fall. Both series will return with new seasons in 2017.

CANADA 150 COUNTDOWN: 25 DAYS UNTIL 2017!

The public broadcaster released an online CBC/Radio-Canada 2017 Programming Guide that outlines the extensive Canada 150 programming offer: documentaries, radio programs, kids programs, entertainment and arts specials, innovative digital and virtual reality initiatives, and ongoing news and current affairs coverage of the people, places and events in every region of the country that will shape Canada’s milestone anniversary year.

2017 programming kicks off on December 31st with CANADA’S NEW YEAR’S EVE – COUNTDOWN TO 2017, a nation-wide musical celebration hosted by Rick Mercer from Parliament Hill on CBC Television and online at CBC.CA/2017. From 7-9 p.m. ET, CBC News Network will kick-off New Year’s Eve with live coverage of the official ceremonies from Parliament Hill, including a ceremonial re-lighting of the Centennial Flame, as well as fireworks and celebrations across the country with CANADA 2017 – NYE LIVE WITH HEATHER HISCOX.

The public broadcaster’s English and French services have come together to present a number of joint projects, including: WE ARE CANADA, a prime-time documentary series that celebrates the next generation of change-makers; TRAIN 150, a multiplatform series that offers a close-up, cross-country view of Canada; a special edition of the landmark series CANADA: A PEOPLE’S HISTORY; a special presentation of THE BEST OF THE GOVERNOR GENERAL’S PERFORMING ARTS GALA; WHAT’S YOUR STORY?/LA ROUTE DES 20, which recruits a diverse group of millennials to tell the contemporary story of Canada throughout 2017; WE ARE THE BEST, a series that shows off the extraordinary culinary richness of our country; and extensive national CANADA DAY 2017 coverage on CBC and Radio-Canada platforms.

CBC highlights include: CANADA: THE STORY OF US, an epic ten-part television history series that tells the extraordinary story of the people, places and events that have shaped our country. With a combination of fact-based drama and stunning CGI animations, it is the stories of Indigenous peoples and immigrants; pioneers and rule breakers; and scientists and entrepreneurs who forged a nation in a vast and harsh land; BECOMING CANADIAN, a digital-first series that will focus on stories from the 250,000 new Canadians who take the Oath of Citizenship; and SHORT DOCS: INDIGENOUS, a collection of short digital documentaries by emerging Indigenous storytellers that will focus on Indigenous Canadians who are challenging the past to define their futures.

CBC announced that new 8x30 docu-series KEEPING CANADA SAFE will premiere with back-to-back episodes on Thursday, March 16 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC. Two back-to-back episodes will air Thursdays at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) on CBC.


CBC'S CANADA: THE STORY OF US BRINGS A NATION'S HISTORY TO LIFE STARTING MARCH 26

CANADA: THE STORY OF US, an epic 10 x one-hour docu-drama series highlighting many of the extraordinary moments and people that helped forge a nation from early Indigenous history to the 20th century, will premiere with back-to-back episodes on Sunday, March 26 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC. Following its special two-hour premiere event on March 26, CANADA: THE STORY OF US will continue in its regular timeslot Sundays at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT) starting on April 2.

KEN DRYDEN'S WE ARE CANADA SHOWCASES YOUNG CANADIANS WHO ARE SHAPING THE FUTURE OF CANADA

WE ARE CANADA, a six-part documentary series that celebrates the next generation of passionate Canadian changemakers, premieres Sunday, April 9 at 7 p.m. (7:30 p.m. NT) on CBC, with new episodes airing each Sunday at the same time until May 14. A French-language version of the series will air on ICI Radio-Canada Télé and ICI RDI this summer (details to be confirmed in a separate French-language release).

Make CBC/Radio-Canada Part of Your Canada Day

On Saturday July 1, CBC will offer a full day of programming and news coverage beginning at 6 a.m. ET (3 a.m. PT) on CBC NEWS NETWORK with Heather Hiscox hosting live from Charlottetown until 10 a.m. (7 a.m. PT). On CBC and CBC NEWS NETWORK from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. ET (7 a.m. – 12 p.m. PT), Peter Mansbridge will anchor CBC NEWS SPECIAL PRESENTION: CANADA 2017 live from Parliament Hill in Ottawa, featuring Canada Day events from coast to coast to coast. The news special will celebrate and reflect as it takes a look at our country's successes and failures and, most importantly, its future—asking Canadians what they want for Canada in the next 150 years. Coverage will include the Royal visit to Ottawa by Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, and the official Canada Day ceremony on Parliament Hill.

In the evening, CBC will offer CANADA DAY 150! FROM COAST TO COAST TO COAST, a special three-hour broadcast from Parliament Hill in Ottawa, hosted by Rick Mercer and featuring performances in every province and territory across the country beginning at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT) on CBC and streaming live at cbc.ca/2017, watch.cbc.ca, YouTube.com/cbc, Facebook.com/cbccanada2017, the CBC TV app and CBC Music Apple TV app. CBC RADIO ONE and CBC RADIO 2 will broadcast an audio-only version of the special at 9 p.m. local time across Canada (10 AT, 10:30 NT).

Three new comedy specials are part of CBC's television lineup: JUST FOR LAUGHS PRESENTS: STAND-UP ON GUARD FOR THEE a two-hour special hosted by Daniel Levy on Tuesday, June 20 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT), which sets out to prove that Canada is the funniest country on earth by rolling out some of the best moments in JFL history; YOUR SPECIAL CANADA, STARRING JONATHAN TORRENS on Saturday, July 1 at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT), in which Torrens returns to his birthplace—and the Birthplace of Confederation—to host a sweet and silly "thank-you note" to Canada; and AIR FARCE CANADA 150 on Saturday, July 1 at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT), an hour-long send-up of national proportions to mark the sesquicentennial from perennial audience favourite AIR FARCE.

CBC KIDS will have a special one-hour Canada Day broadcast for young viewers starting at 9 a.m. ET (6 a.m. PT) on CBC, featuring the premiere of JAXON AND SONG'S MAPLE MYSTERY.
