Are you in and around Montreal? In need of a lift? Let the carpooling app, Netlift, save the day.

Netlift is currently offering free rides from October 24 th through to November 30 th to users in the Montreal area.

Sound useful?  Sign up as a rider or driver with Netlift. You may find you have a match heading on your route.

Netlift pairs passengers with drivers willing to share available seats in their vehicle. And it's different from Uber.  Netlift only compensates the driver for the cost of the trip, nothing further.

In general, it's only used by drivers who are heading to their destination anyways.

Parking Reimbursement

As an added bonus, the carpooling app is now offering up to 50% reimbursement for parking to drivers.

Users can take a photo of their parking receipts (yearly, monthly or daily) and submit them to Netlift.

"The traffic situation in Greater Montreal is a great concern, especially now that major work has begun on the Turcot interchange," explains Marc-Antoine Ducas, founding president of Netlift.

"We want to do our part and offer the community a viable solution to make it easier to get around, while reducing the number of vehicles on the road. We are hoping this free trial period will encourage people to try out and definitively adopt multimodal carpooling on a daily basis," he added.

According to the company’s website, every month Netlift coordinates between 20,000 and 25,000 matches across Quebec. Most of those are found on the Island of Montreal and its north and south shores.

How reliable is it? Netlift says that it achieves matching rates of more than 90% on regular basis at rush hour in some Montreal boroughs.

Carpooling App Features

The app has many useful features including flexible scheduling, in-app messaging to communicate with your ride partner, user ratings and micro payments. This means ride fares are transferred through the app so users never have to handle or exchange cash.

And coming soon is a “guaranteed return home” feature, so you can count on a ride both ways.

Netlift is accessible on both the Web and on smart phones. It was recently awarded the grand prize and the people's choice prize at InnoBahn, an event presented by the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and Ubisoft.
