Like watching American Horror Story, or Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix? Live in Canada?

Bad news. Soon, you will no longer be able to hack into the US version of the entertainment streaming service, according to Netflix. states that as many as one-third of Canadian Netflix subscribers  use a server-masking program to tap into the American version of Netflix. That's because the American service offers up to 50 per cent more content than the Canadian one.

The reason this is the case has to do with Netflix’s distribution deals with movie studios and content providers that vary across the border.

Netflix says that they are aware of the imbalance as a problem.

“We are making progress in licensing content across the world and, as of last week, now offer the Netflix service in 190 countries, but we have a ways to go before we can offer people the same films and TV series everywhere,” writes David Fullagar, VP of content delivery architecture.

The news is ominous.

“In coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are,” reads a release recently posted on the Netflix website.
