I believe Ford Motor Company purchased a large number of 530's from Motorola for use in it's dealer network.
The software in this box is likely not the same, and therefore probably will not work. But that isn't really my area...

Call Shaw Direct and they can let you know immediately.

Please let us know what they say.

I agree with Hugh, keep us informed.

It should still be able to show Signal Strength, even if is not activated.

Extremely unlikely that Shaw Direct will be able to activate that receiver. All their units have their Serial Number and...Unit ID I think? entered into a database that they can look up, just like how they would look up to see if there anything owing on it. If that unit was not originally a Starchoice/Shaw unit, or one of the few 550's that they bought, then they won't be able to add it. Unfortunately it looks like you got yourself a nice big grey paper weight :)

I just called Shaw Direct and they informed me that since it is not a Shaw Direct receiver, they wont be able to activate it. Fortunately for me I inquired before purchasing the receiver. Thanks everyone for their input. Great Site
