I would say that I lost signal about 3 or 4 times; each outage lasting about 10 minutes. In around the time of 4:30 to 6:00 MDT.

It's also worth noting that at least one of my 9242s re-booted during this period. I was working in the garage and the "please wait" message went to snow; and I only get snow when a receiver reboots. My fiancee said about that time the receiver made the noise it normally makes when it re-boots.

Thats what way I would interpret their claim, same as airlines bragging about being on-time, I think they exclude weather delays.

British Railways, many years ago, had a dreadful "On Time" record, so they added 5 minutes to every hour......lol Amazingly almost 100% of trains made it "On Time" from then on......lol

The Bell TV uplink is the problem, Bell only has one uplink and its located in Toronto. So when dark cloud's are above, all of Canada will loose signal. Even Shaw Direct has a black up.

signal breakup during CFL on July 1

We just got home (Calgary) from vacation today, were looking forward to watching the Riders-Alouettes game recorded on our PVR Thurs. evening. [Travelling in the USA we had no trouble avoiding news of the game's result.]

But our recording was unwatchable - continuous signal breakup throughout the entire game!
Our recording of SportsCentre (same channel) at midnight Thurs. night was fine.

Anyone else have the problem during the game?

This makes me wonder about our 9241 (bought 2 months ago, after our 9200 died) . . It has 'stuttered' fairly frequently when playing a recording [usu. recovers within a few seconds after 1 press of 'skip']. There may be some inherent instability in our unit.

I haven't been on this forum much in recent years - are there lots of reports of people having to get their 9241 replaced?

Outage Again ??

OK... I was ready to sit down and tune in to see how the soccer final was going, and there went the signal !! I am on SD only. This was around 4:15 EST. It is currently 30 degrees and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. WTF !! On a hunch, I checked the Weather Network (on internet) and they say severe storms in Toronto. Is this causing anyone else grief ?

The sky is clearing up, hail is moving out and all of that. So should be fine now.

Just checked again, and now I have some channels back. Of course, the ones carrying the soccer are still not working. Murphy's Law... Seems that my friend who has HD is experiencing some signal breakup, but is still is getting a signal. I guess it only affects just us cheap skates who still have SD.

The pop-up thunderstorms that went through were pretty localized and brief (there was hardly anything at Yonge & Lawrence). May affect one satellite more than the other?

The outage occurred, to my understanding, because of a big storm that swept through Toronto which is where Bell's up-link satellite transmitter is located.

AFAIK, it's the only one Bell has, so when a strong enough storm goes through the area all of Canada gets affected.

I live in south-western ontario and I too lost service around this time; and the skies are clear in my area. All my transponders were reading "0", then after about 10 minutes or so were all back.

It would be nice for Bell to set up a second up-link transmitter somewhere else in the country, but as things stand, it's an "Achilles heal" of Bell TV.

Funny thing is that while watching the game on Rogers and it was pourring outside, I was just thinking that: How many people on Bell must have lost their signal... Often, it's the uplink signal that is lost, you would think Bell would have strong signal to beam up to the satellites..

I must admit, I have lost my signal more this year so far than almost any I can remember.

It really is time Bell invested in another Up-link, somewhere out West.

I wonder what Telus think of these outages.....
