The new, low cost BlackBerry Q5 smartphone will be launched in Canada on Aug. 13.

Equipped with a QWERTY keyboard and a 3.1-inch touch-screen, the Q5 will be available at all major retail outlets and carriers including Bell, Fido, Koodo, SaskTel, TELUS, and Virgin Mobile.

"Canada is our home, and bringing the BlackBerry Q5 smartphone here is a testament to our strong partner support and ongoing commitment to delivering innovative technologies that enable Canadian enterprises and consumers to improve how they connect and communicate," said Andrew MacLeod, BlackBerry's managing director for Canada.

MacLeod notes that the BlackBerry Q5 comes with a dual core 1.2GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage built in, vibrant touchscreen, 4G/LTE network support, messaging and social networking features and, of course, cutting-edge BlackBerry 10 functionality.

The 5-megapixel main camera also shoots 1080p HD video, while the 2-megapixel front-facing camera is available for selfies and BlackBerry Messenger video chats plus the Q5 also brings NFC technology for tap-and-go functionality.
