Here's the problem:

My daughter's ASUS netbook, running Windows XP, went nuts last night: suddenly, the screen content flipped 90 degrees, for no apparent reason.

It's very difficult to use the trackpad like that but I did manage to get into Control Panel/Display/Settings. The Screen Resolution reads 768 x 1024, instead of 1024 x 768. Again, with great difficulty I managed to move the slider so that 1024 x 768 came up, and hit Apply. But nothing changed. Going back in, it still read 768 x 1024.

I booted into Safe mode, but that seemed stuck at 800 x 600. The slider refused to move.

I'm mystified, and looking bad in my daughter's eyes. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd forgotten that; it'll make manouvering easier when I get home tonight. But any idea what might be causing the problem?

Many graphic cards now offer rotation options under their Advanced Options. Have you looked for that?

Thanks guys. The Ctrl Alt arrow combination actually spun the whole screen around. I guess my daughter accidentally hit the right (or wrong) combination!
