Bell TV has announced Remote PVR Access, a new feature which allows owners of the Bell 9242 and 9241 HD PVR to schedule recordings and manage their PVRs library of shows from selected smartphones or a web browser.
The new functionality is ideal for HD PVR owners who are away from their home but still need to schedule or manage their recordings. Unfortunately, the service does not allow users to remotely view recordings, just manage them.
The new service is available to all Bell TV subscribers with an HD PVR 9242 or 9241 receiver that is connected to the internet and has the latest firmware updates. The service is free but a Bell login is required.
To enable Remote Access on your smartphone, Bell PVR owners will need to download and install an application on their phone. Applications are now available for the following smartphones: BlackBerry World (8830) with firmware 4.5 or above, BlackBerry Curve (8330) with firmware 4.5 or above, BlackBerry Curve (8530), BlackBerry Tour (9630), BlackBerry Bold (9700), Samsung Omnia 2, Palm Pre.
An application for the popular Apple iPhone is not available.
Once the smartphone application is running and the log-in validated, users can browse, search customize a 9-day program guide and set recordings.
In addition to the features provided in the smartphone application, users who visit the Bell Remote PVR website will also be able to set recording priorities and manage conflicts, view a list of all existing recordings and delete to make space, review and edit details for upcoming recordings, and track PVR disk space.
