In financial results released today BCE said it continues to expand its Internet Protocol Television capable footprint in communities across Ontario and Québec.

During the first three months of 2011, the Bell IPTV footprint grew by 60% to encompass more than 800,000 households in Toronto and Montréal, up from approximately 500,000 homes passed at the end of 2010.

Bell, which has been offering Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite television service for over a decade, began offering its IPTV service - branded Fibe TV - in select areas of Toronto and Montréal in September 2010.

Combine the two services together and Bell, as of March 31, 2011, has 2,027,761 television subscribers up 7,633 form the end of last years. The vast majority of the those customers subscribe to Bell's satellite television service. The exact number is not known as Bell no longer reports the exact number of subscribers for its satellite and IPTV service.

The company did say that the Fibe TV service contributed " significantly to TV subscriber acquisitions" in the quarter.

The average Bell Television customer spent $75.76 per month, up 4.4% from $72.60 per month in the same quarter of 2010. Overall Bell TV revenues were up 7.5% to $460 million.
