Both Bell and Rogers were among the numerous companies across the country to offer support to the Canadian Red Cross and local relief workers to help flood-ravaged communities in Southern Alberta.
More than $2.6 million for Alberta flood relief was raised in three days, said Red Cross officials.
Bell donated $100,000, while electronics retailer The Source will ship 8 full skids of batteries, in partnership with Energizer, to help the cause. All mobile phone users may also donate $5 by texting REDCROSS or ROUGE to 30333.
Rogers Communications has also chipped in with $100,000 and encourages cell phone customers who want to help, to donate $5 to the Canadian Red Cross by sending a free text message with the word ABHELP to 4664.
Donations may be made to the Red Cross by calling 1-800-418-1111 or on their website . Also, donations can be made to the Salvation Army Flood Relief effort by calling 1-800-725-2769. The Alberta government is also asking people to donate money as it is more flexible and easier to allocate to those who need it most.
