Our neighbourhood will be getting fiber service later this year. I would like to run my own fiber cable from where the router will be to the point where Bell's fiber will come to the house. I want to do this myself because my preferred route is to go up through the attic and down an existing conduit to the router location. I don't imagine that the Bell installers will want to go into the attic and frankly I would prefer that they not. I would like to procure the fiber cable and do the run assuming that the Bell installers can take care of the terminations at either end. I don't know what cable specification I need to look for. Can anyone please assist with that information? Thank you.

I doubt there is much difference between the outside and inside cables apart from the outside covering. Direct burial cable usually has a more durable covering to prevent damage due to the underground environment. I also doubt there is a lot of difference between most indoor residential fibre optic cables. Fire rating may be a determining factor for in wall use. Another factor will be the terminations it uses.

Another option may be to leave the new router at the entry point and use ethernet from there to a wireless access point where the existing router is located. If the router is owned, it can most likely be reconfigured as an access point and ethernet switch.
