I doubt there is much difference between the outside and inside cables apart from the outside covering. Direct burial cable usually has a more durable covering to prevent damage due to the underground environment. I also doubt there is a lot of difference between most indoor residential fibre optic cables. Fire rating may be a determining factor for in wall use. Another factor will be the terminations it uses.
 
Another option may be to leave the new router at the entry point and use ethernet from there to a wireless access point where the existing router is located. If the router is owned, it can most likely be reconfigured as an access point and ethernet switch.
