Ok, I'm really confused now. I just got off the phone with Bell support and was told the 9500s don't share AND the 7500 only attaches to one of the 9500s not both. So, what is called a "whole home" solution for three tvs works out to be 2 tvs can share programming (9500 and a 7500) and one independent 9500. I would be better off with one 9500 and 2 7500s so I can see all recordings on any of the 3 tvs BUT Bell won't let me order it that way. I have to order 2 9500s and a 7500. Am I seeing this all wrong and getting bad info from the Bell agent? Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My 9500 was bought new in July 2019 and is of course out of warranty. A few months ago it started crashing/resetting the whole unit when the Netflix app starts streaming. You can open Netflix and browse shows but start streaming and it dies. Disappointing but no big deal as I have Fire Stick and I actually prefer it to the 9500 controls for Netflix.

More recently when playing shows that have been recorded, the playback hangs/pauses for varying amounts of time. Sometimes a few seconds sometimes 20 sec and sometimes much longer. On a long wait I can switch back to live TV and start over again. It does not resume from where it pauses, only starts from the beginning. The video/picture never breaks up , it just pauses. No system errors popping up either. Hard resetting the PVR doesn't help. The hard disk is pretty full and some movies/shows seem to have the problem less. I have an external hard drive that I copy movies to and the files that pause most give errors when archiving to the external drive, others are ok.

On the playback pausing issue I'm suspecting the hard drive may be failing. Perhaps the pausing is the disk trying to recover the data in soft sectors?? I had a 9242 about 5 years that started to have issues (I forget the details but I think there was video breakup and pausing) and I replaced the hard drive and that fixed the problem. I hope the 9500 isn't suffering capacitor issues like my 9242/41's have in the past.

Anyone seen similar issues on the 9500 or have any thoughts on root cause?

I have two 9500s and two 7500s. I can see and watch all my recordings on any receiver in the house. The 9500s have two tuners each. If those tuners are in use, the 7500s can still watch a recording but can’t tune to any other live channel until a tuner becomes free.
Don’t ask me they are hooked up because I don’t know. There is something called a hybrid duo hub that some cables go in out of as well as a channel stack splitter.

I just wish Bell would go the route Dish has and have at least the tree tuner version of the 9500 as I have 6 x 9421 in the house previously meaning I had 12 tuners. No I didn't have the ability to watch anything from anywhere, but now instead I have eigth tuners (2 x 9500 and 2 x 9241 each having two tuners).

You can't even buy/rent activate a third 9500! If either of my 9241s bite the dust I will be down two more tuners. Anyone with kids still at home or a spouse who records everything during prime time knows what a PITA Bell has created.

Had a Bell Tech at the house today to replace my legacy SW44/SW44A switch combo with a DPP Quad. Pretty good service, I called in a problem yesterday (Sunday) and they were at my house the next morning and on a holiday! They waived the $75 service call fee too.

He mentioned there was a 9500 receiver showing up in their system. It wasn't available to anyone and he had little information other than "built in Wi-Fi". Just wondered if anyone had heard of a new receiver - I assume a PVR?

Yes, 9500 will only work with some new TVs as the new TVs may not work with our older PVR. Out since 2019, I think. Hard to buy used, I’m finding.

Had Bell upgrade me to a quad 9500 & 7500 whole home. The 9500 seems to have a problem processing the audio. The audio levels jump up and down mid scene of a program, and not in say a transition with music background. I know that the channels have limiters so this should not happen, as well as the matrix setting, having worked there. So i started checking different combinations between the TV and the PRV setting, Dolby Digital/PCM, surround sound settings. All combos, same problem, even records that way. Anyone else having similar problems?

Differences in sound levels between channels and programming are not unusual. Some equipment has audio leveling or compression settings. Check the receiver, TV and sound system audio settings for these. It can be labeled as dynamic range or night mode, among other things.

No I am only referring to program audio. I used to monitor out-going and return broadcast signals. Distribution sets the matrix, ingest downloads to the server and I had to monitor. In addition, due to complains to the CRTC limiters were installed to prevent 5.1 dynamic commercial audio from giving the appearance as being louder using the older Vu monitoring system, which were replaced with 5.1 range scopes.
What I referring to is the audio of program will suddenly jump in volume or drop down. This happens regardless of what the background audio is or if it is in a scene transition. Including on PVR recordings.
The 9500 PVR and television are match for digital/PCM. Have tried changing the setting to see if it would make a difference, it did not.
Presently i am trying to see if the problem is on one or both turners, by recording two shows at the same time.
The only thing left would be the turner does no process the audio correctly.
Testing with stations i know use the limiters i worked with in the the past.
FYI not mentioning the stations / or brand of limiters we used.

I see wide ranges in program audio as well. Sometimes it's due to technical issues at the broadcaster as when the audio level goes up and down in mid sentence. Other times it's due to content. That has only become worse as broadcasters and streaming services have adopted programming and audio formats with very wide dynamic range. Assuming audio leveling is implemented in one of the components in use, the solution in the previous post should provide some relief. For example, our TV boxes have wide and narrow audio range settings. Some TVs and speakers have similar options.

Hi there,

I don’t know if this issue has been discussed before but I’m hopeful there is a solution. I have Bell Satellite service in Toronto and a 9500 receiver. The US Open Tennis is currently on several TSN channels and I would like to record two different tennis matches at the same time, one on each tuner of the 9500 receiver. The problem seems to be that the description of both programs in the Guide is “2022 U.S. Open Tennis” and it does not differentiate between the different matches. So, I can record a tennis match on one tuner but not on the second tuner, even though they are on different channels. I can use the second tuner to record any other program as long as it is not called “2022 U.S. Open”.

Any solution for this?

Thanks,
Keith

I tried to record on the second tuner by pressing the Rec button on the remote and I get "Record Remainder of This Event". It just doesn't record because it thinks it is already recording it on Tuner 1.
But thanks for the reply.

Hello, I have an old, up until two weeks ago, reliable 9242, have had it since 2006 I believe, with no issues. A couple of weeks ago my component output started acting up. I use the component to connect my tv on the main floor to the 9242 in the basement. After troubleshooting to find it was definitely the receiver and not a cable or other issue I contacted Bell and they promptly send out a replacement receive, which I know is a refurbished. The replacement would not even power on! A second replacement was also faulty, so a 3rd is on it way. 3rd time the charm???
The support person asked about replacement with a 9500 at no cost, however when I told her that I needed to connect a second TV I was told another 7500 receiver would be required and there would be a rental cost. Thus the 3rd 9242 is on it's way.
If this replacement does not work I will be asking Bell to provide a 9500 and 7500 at no additional cost. My question is how does the 7500 connect to the 9500 via cable or WIFI, or do in need a separate satellite cable connected to the 7500? Parton my ignorance, I have not had to do anything with my TV systems since 2006! Thanks.

I have recordings that are on my external hard drive on the 9400, if i purchase the 9500 can i hook up the external hard drive to the 9500 and still be able to access them, or will they be lost and have to format the hard drive to use it with the 9500. Having some issues with the 9400 so just wondering how I can save and use my recordings on the 9500, if I purchase the 9500

The 9400 eHDD is not compatible with the 9500. See eHDD facts thread.

@Rickitty : Looks like your post may have been moved to this thread on the 9500/7500. I'm not an expert on Bell, but my understanding is that the 7500 is just a dumb streaming box and is "connected" to the 9500, I assume via Ethernet or WiFi. Someone more familiar than I will have to confirm or expand further. The 7500 is not a stand-alone box and requires the 9500 to function since the 9500 contains the tuners and hard drive.

Thanks for your response . It is connected via the 203961 hub. One coax from 9500 to ADV CLIENT connection point. And one coax from the 7500 to where? The remaining ADV CLIENT connection point or the remaining CLIENT/HVR connection point? Thanks
