Bell 9500 (and 7500) Receiver Discussions

Had a Bell Tech at the house today to replace my legacy SW44/SW44A switch combo with a DPP Quad. Pretty good service, I called in a problem yesterday (Sunday) and they were at my house the next morning and on a holiday! They waived the $75 service call fee too.

He mentioned there was a 9500 receiver showing up in their system. It wasn't available to anyone and he had little information other than "built in Wi-Fi". Just wondered if anyone had heard of a new receiver - I assume a PVR?

Not pleased - External Hard Drive from 9242 doesn't work on 9500

My 9242 died yesterday so decided to upgrade to 9500. Got the 9500 swapped in and all's well except my 9242 ext HDD doesn't work on the 9500. It has to reformatted and I'd loose a pile of movies and documentaries that I've archived. Tried it on my 9241 and no problem, works fine. Asked the Bell installer and he said yup that's the deal. How could Bell be so stupid to bring out a new receiver that isn't backwards compatible with its previous PVR's ext HDDs ?? Maybe a software update would fix this?? Perhaps I should have went with a 9400 which apparently is compatible.
The 9500 isn't compatible with legacy LNB/SW44 systems. A quad Dish Pro Plus (DPP) LNB had to be installed. Could have bought one and done it myself but for $75 it was worthwhile to have the Bell tech do it all.
My 9500 was bought new in July 2019 and is of course out of warranty. A few months ago it started crashing/resetting the whole unit when the Netflix app starts streaming. You can open Netflix and browse shows but start streaming and it dies. Disappointing but no big deal as I have Fire Stick and I actually prefer it to the 9500 controls for Netflix.

More recently when playing shows that have been recorded, the playback hangs/pauses for varying amounts of time. Sometimes a few seconds sometimes 20 sec and sometimes much longer. On a long wait I can switch back to live TV and start over again. It does not resume from where it pauses, only starts from the beginning. The video/picture never breaks up , it just pauses. No system errors popping up either. Hard resetting the PVR doesn't help. The hard disk is pretty full and some movies/shows seem to have the problem less. I have an external hard drive that I copy movies to and the files that pause most give errors when archiving to the external drive, others are ok.

On the playback pausing issue I'm suspecting the hard drive may be failing. Perhaps the pausing is the disk trying to recover the data in soft sectors?? I had a 9242 about 5 years that started to have issues (I forget the details but I think there was video breakup and pausing) and I replaced the hard drive and that fixed the problem. I hope the 9500 isn't suffering capacitor issues like my 9242/41's have in the past.

Anyone seen similar issues on the 9500 or have any thoughts on root cause?
