Hi,

We are with BEV and have a 9242 servicing two SD Tv's. We love the PVR as we can watch and control it from both TV's. But, Telus has great promotional pricing ... How do the 2 PVR's stack up? Can the Optik PVR serve only SD Tv's or do we have to have an HD TV? BEV rep has already given us 30% off and free PVR rental and we are hesitant to give up the 9242.

If you're happy, why bother switching? Atleast your happy now, switching might not keep you happy too.

I don't know about the specific Optic TV hardware, but IPTV (or provider set-top) boxes in general are HD, and support SD TV sets as well.

Most IPTV DVRs can record up to four streams off of one wire. A satellite DVR is limited to two. Should you decide on two HDTVs in the future (supposing you stick to IPTV), both can share the pool of recordings on the DVR, in HD (the second set on a Bell 9242 is limited to SD)

I can confirm that Telus Optik TV boxes are all HD and have the full range of connections for HD and SD TVs. You can also record HD channels and watch them on SD TVs.

You will need a PVR and STB to watch different programs on 2 separate TVs. You can have up to 6 STBs in total sharing the central PVR, so you can watch a recorded program on any TV.

While pleased with BEV, switching to Telus' Optik TV could save us more than $800 per year. I plan on calling Telus' loyalty department and explore what I may get and would like to be armed as far as speed questions etc. Thanks!

I moved from bell to another carrier and it was the worst thing I ever did. The bell receivers, guides and PQ are second to none...SD on telus is very poor and in my opinion Bell's SD is the best. I would check out the PQ before switching and not at the telus outlet as their bandwidth will be 100x better then the bandwidth you are going to get.
