Beats by Dr. Dre just introduced the Pill+ speaker. The new Pill+ comes in either black or white and costs $230. It is part of the Pill family of wireless, Bluetooth products. It is larger than the regular Pill, but smaller than the (recalled) Pill XL. The larger size of the Pill+ versus the Pill brings with it longer battery life and improved sound quality. The Pill+ measures 8.25″ wide, is good for 12 hours of music on the go.
The Pill+ is the first product in the line to feature an Apple lightning connector, which can charge the device in only 3 hours. The Beats Pill+ eschews the full-range drivers of the regular Pill for separate woofers and tweeters, and it employs an active crossover to produce a higher level of audio fidelity than its smaller sibling can muster. Additional nifty features include the ability to act as a speakerphone, and to charge smartphones with its built-in USB port.
The Pill+ gets its own app for Android and iOS mobile platforms, and with it you can perform a couple of neat tricks. In addition to the “DJ the Playlist” function that lets friends use two Bluetooth sources to keep the party going, you can combine two Beats Pill+ to either play in stereo, or to play the same mix for more volume.
The Pill+ will be available from the Apple store as well as authorized Beats retailers starting next month.
