She came to the show with more of a performer background than a journalist, and I think that's what added nice touches. Her way of rolling out the standard opening pun was always playful, but her voice also tended to defrost some topics that really needed it. Nice that she's leaving on her own terms, unlike the case of so many CBC Radio veterans who were basically culled.

Barbara Budd IS As It Happens. The show will never be the same without her voice, wit, puns, and of course, interviews.

I hope CBC Radio keeps the show and its format untouched, unlike after Barbara Frum passed away and TV's The Journal was cancelled.

She's not leaving by choice

This is yet another brilliant idea from CBC Radio executives. They already killed radio drama, and unbranded Radio 2, so not renewing Barbara Budd's contract must be a no brainer for them. Where do they come up with this stuff? I guess they must learn if it ain't broke, let's fix it in CBC Radio executive school.

The CBC eat their young.
