Spanish invention offers relief for the environment and the wallet by cutting down on standby power use.

Excerpt:

The gadget, called 100%Off, measures the current being used by an appliance during normal operations and during standby, and cuts the power supply to those detected to be in standby mode. Users reactivate the appliance by pressing a green button. The device could cut 10 per cent from electricity bills and 1 per cent of global carbon dioxide emissions, based on the International Energy Agency's figures on standby power use.
Sounds good in theory, but I don't see how it would be practical to be walking over to the power bar (which for most people probably won't be out in the open and easily accessible) to press a green button every single time I want to re-activate my standby equipment. A more intelligent solution than the one offered by this product is needed, IMO.
