Apple has sent out invitations to a press event next Tuesday October 4th at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. On the invite, it says "Let's Talk iPhone" which leaves little doubt that the unveiling of the iPhone 5 is near at hand.
The launch of the iPhone 5 comes 15 months after the introduction of the iPhone 4 and just over four years since the original iPhone.
While the subject of intense speculation, very little is known about what we can expect from the new device. Rumours include the addition of the dual-core processor found on the iPad 2, a higher resolution 8 megapixel camera and more memory.
The 5th generation iPhone is expected run on iOS 5.0, the latest version of the Apple operating system for handheld devices.
Industry analysts expect the iPhone 5 to go on-sale in the United States shortly after its unveiling, however, if history is any guide, Canadians may have to wait a month or more to get their hands on the new device.
The iPhone 4 went on sale in the United States 17 days after it was announced and six weeks after it was announced in Canada.
