I am going to activate my new phone shortly.

Just wanted to know if I go with Pay As You Go with Rogers is there a way to get out of the $35 activation fee? I already have a new/unused Rogers sim card for my phone.

Also does anyone know of any apps/websites that allow you to look up a specific phone number to see if it is available so I can give it to Rogers as my new phone number when I activate my phone?

thanks

If going w/ Rogers, the cheapest way to activate is buy a (new) SIM card from eBay (I paid $5) and activate via Rogers' internet site. I was not charged an activation fee when I did this a couple of years ago. Hopefully, the process still works.

Usually carriers will give you a number at random, though sometimes if you visit a store they can sometimes offer a choice between certain phone numbers. Usually in this case though, the best you'd be able to hope for is selecting the last 4 numbers of the phone number if it's available.

you have some choice when it comes to number, they can tell you the list of available numbers for that day and you simply pick from the list. or enter a preference 4 last numbers

Yes I concur they do not charge you for activation. some people mistakenly think that because they need to add airtime to an activation if you are providing your own equiptment, then they may incorrectly consider that an activation fee, but its not, its a voucher they need to add airtime to your newly created acount to ensure its working properly or its just "required" so the customer can have a good experience and start using it right away. note, this is only the case if you provide your own used/second hand handset, if you are buying a new handset, i think it comes with some airtime already based on the serial number of the handset.
