ExDilbert, I have a similar large red LED display alarm clock sitting next to the 830 acting only as a clock. I like it.

I see the description of the clock you mentioned; it says, "The adjustable brightness, There are 3 levels of brightness for your option." That is important. I bought an alarm clock to sit next to the 830. The display could light a room so I returned it.

Just got an upgrade pvr830 from Shaw Direct. Are there any hidden codes or hidden options?
Disappointing that pvr830 doesn't have clock and recording light on front display.
Hard to understand why Shaw Direct would remove these when customers have had these on pvr630 for years.

Leafs13, I would be shocked if Shaw Direct would send you a third party device to interface with their equipment. However, if you if they agree to send you an HDMI to Component converter device, I will ask them to send me an illuminated clock to take the place of the missing 830 display.

In the manual I don't see these answered:

Here are a couple of questions:
1) On the Stingray channels, now that my receivers are hooked up to wifi, the album covers are displayed. I assume these are coming from the internet...is the music now coming from the internet or satellite? If it is coming from the internet how can you toggle between internet and satellite on these Stingray channels, or can you?
2) I saw somewhere,on this forum, that local weather was available on the 830. Where do I find it? Do I go to on-demand or is it found elsewhere or is it gone?
Thanks

My 830 is connected to the internet. Current weather conditions and temperature is displayed at the top to the GUIDE. Local is relative. I live in the same area code as the current weather is displayed for a place no where near my location. Only current conditions are displayed for that city.

I like having album cover art displayed even though I am not "watching" the tube most of the time; just listening. I notice that the Stingray logo moved when a new tune is played.

Due to burn-in concerns, I hope the change of screen locations would be random rather than just two locations. Better than the previous single location. I may be buying a new TV set maybe this year. I am considering an OLED, but I am told that burn-in is a problem with that technology.

Thanks, I see the weather now. It was there but I didn't notice it. Only hooked up my 830 yesterday.

Do you know if the actual Stingray music is coming from the satellite or internet?

Yes, but I know there is music on the sat. I've been listening to it since 1999. I know there is music on the internet. But when they are both hooked up ,I do not know which one I am listening too, and that was the question.

I saw this on the 630 Owners Discussion Thread and found it interesting as it applies to both the 630 and 830 DVR:

NovaMan said,
“That is extremely strange because the exact same thing happened to me last night between 6 and 7 pm, except on my new 830. I set the timer on my 830 for the CTV Maritimes news, to watch later in the evening.

Before the end of the news show, my 830 lost signal, only on that channel, as far as I know. Also, I was surprised when my recording was also lost.

Glad to hear it wasn't just me. CBS and CTV Halifax are on different satellites, so it wasn't a sat problem. What would cause this?”

Edit: Never mind - I misspoke I think. I would also think maybe it's weather related for the uplink site. I would need some details to investigate such as channel name, the program name, map number in OPTIONS-4-7, time of issue with time zone noted, etc.

I know that if the recording was interrupted, but on at a later time, the PVR will attempt to re-record it at the later time slot.

This came originally from the 630 discussion where @ JasperJoe said:
" I was watching and recording Survivor on CBS last night and last week and a very peculiar thing happened: before the end of the show (last night just a few seconds and last week about 10 minutes) my 630 lost signal on that channel. To my surprise after the signal was lost, the recording was also lost.

I thought it would have kept what was recorded to the point of interruption.

I've never seen this action in the years I've had this 630. Have you?

Incidentally, I was able to get the ending of both shows off the net."

...
and what was copied here on the 830 forum was just my experience on a totally different channel at a different time on a different series receiver...but both happened last night.

This has never happened to either one of us before. So I don't think it is a problem worth pursuing any further. It was more of an observation than a search for solutions. It may never happen again.
