Is it the same remote that the 630 uses?
Physically, they appear identical with all the same buttons. The 630 remote was identified as IR/RF600 in its instruction manual. The 830 is identified as Arris IRC600/URC600 in its instruction manual. And the 830 remote has model number URC600 on the back.

It appears that the IRC600 is infrared only and the URC600 is infrared and RF. These designations are typical of remotes made by Universal Electronics that are used by many proprietary equipment makers and the more generic Universal Remote brand sold separately by third party sellers.

Last night I had the oddest thing happen (well, it was the oddest for at least for a few days): we were watching the Tonight Show on NBC 234 in the living room and decided to head to bed. I tuned the BR receiver to 234 and the screen was blank. How odd.

I checked the receiver in the LR (630) and 234 was pointing at F2. The BR receiver (830) was on 234 but pointed at G1!

Because I have a HDMI matrix switch, I can make either or both TVs point to either or both receiver so it wasn't a massive problem. It just means taking the LR remote into the BR.

I tried a few things to try to get the 830 to switch to F2 but no luck. Does anyone know the magic formula to make the 830 look at 234 on F2?

It's probably a channel mapping issue. Shaw uses channel mapping to implement simsubs so it may have been misconfigured by Shaw or something happened to throw it off. It may be that the HEVC conversion created the issue. Rebooting the 830 should fix it or it may need to be reinitialized from the Shaw web site.

I just “upgraded” to a 830 from a 630.
On the 630 I had an external hard drive hooked up from the esata port on the 630 to the esata port on the hard drive. On the 830 there isn’t an esata port, but there is a usb. Can someone confirm an eSATA to USB cable would work? Thank you.

I can't answer your eSATA to USB cable question, but I just wanted to remind you that any recordings on the external hard drive are tied to the 630 hardware and there's no way to transfer them to the 830. There's a discussion earlier in this thread: 830 PVR Discussions
@Dr.Dave Same topic but do you know if it's possible to view recordings from the internal drive of a 630 that has been decommissioned?

I don't know for sure, but I think it is most likely that a DVR (630 or 830) that is no longer subscribed should be able to use its internal hardware to access the hard drive and so be able to play recordings.

Search “esata cable to usb” Amazon.CA or other vendors for a USB eSATA cable. They are listed there.

@goalsgo yes you can watch the recordings from a decommissioned 630 or 830 for that matter. Note that you can watch the recordings on the external drive as long as it is connected to the original PVR.
Also note that the 630/830 records to the device with the most space. Most if not all of your recordings will be on the external drive and if you move it, there probably won't be many recordings on the 630 unless they are very old and were recorded before you attached the external drive. You may want to delay moving the external drive until you have watched what you want or need to before attaching it to the 830.

You don't seem to be getting an answer. Since they say USB2 or USB3 I imagine since esata is faster than usb2..a cable should work.
