Looking for affordable ways to surf the net out west? There are many options to choose from.

Getting cheap Internet is something everyone wants, including those living in the land of Rocky mountains, forests and prairies. Surf the web, down movies and music and write all the emails your fingers can handle. Whether you're bound for the great outdoors, sitting on the couch or hard at work, having Internet that suits your needs and budget is essential.

If you’re living in Alberta and looking for affordable Internet in your home, check out these best deals:

1) Shaw

Shaw’s Internet 5 plan now has an online deal for $35/month. It’s an intro offer that lasts for 3 months after you order, and then it goes up the regular rate of $60.00/month.

What do you get? Up to 5 Mbps download speeds, up to 1 Mbps upload speeds, 65 GB of data, access to Shaw Go WiFi, Shaw Webmail, 10 email addresses, and the ability to register up to 3 devices on Go WiFi.

2) VMedia

This company has one of the cheapest deals on Internet around. For $20/month you get unlimited high speed DSL 6 service with up to 6 Mbps for downloads and 800 Kbps for uploads. And there are no contracts to be signed, which is good.

Warnings: you will most likely have to pay an installation fee of $65 (it’s free only if you’re switching over from VMedia cable Internet), purchase or rent a VMedia modem, and pay $8/month as a dry loop fee if you don’t currently have Bell home phone service.

(VMedia works off of Bell networks). All in all, it can add up but it’s still about $40/month even when adding in all these extras, which is cheaper than Internet straight from Bell itself.

3) Telus

Telus has some deals on right now that will save you money, at least for the next 3 months.

With the Internet 15 package you pay $40/month for the first 3 months and then it goes up to $71/month. Bundle it with Telus TV and get more for your money.

4) TekSavvy

For $30/month, Tek Savvy has high speed DSL 6 service with download speeds of up to 6 Mbps and 400 GB of data per month. A $50 activation fee applies, as well as rental or purchase fees for a modem.

For just $24/month, Tek Savvy’s Cable 5 Internet gives you download speeds of up to 5 Mbps, and 400 GB of data per month.

5) Yak

Yak is now offering cable Internet in Alberta for $40/month. Get unlimited data usage, and download speeds of up to 5 Mbps. Not a bad deal.

6) Primus

Starting at $40/month with download speeds of up to 50 Mbps (is that a typo, Primus?) users can enjoy Primus Internet for a guaranteed 2-year term.
