Does anyone else have the problem of channel 900 only showing a black screen. i have a 3d tv, and regardless, the channel should show all hd boxes something.

this has been black since i heard about it, which was 3 days ago

that means it is working. now all you need is a 3d tv, and turn the 3d on to side-by-side.

I had the rogers tech here today. The channel should theoretically show up on all HD digital boxes the way just described.

Thery checked my boxes, the line signal strength. Everything was fine.

The next step they said was to check the trunk at my building and see if some equipment needs some updating to allow this new frequency to make it through the lines.

From what I here is that this channel is working properly accross my entire region (Toronto - North York)

I brought my hd box to my friends house.. 2 kilometeres away, the box works perfectly, but the channel 900 still shows only black for him too.

I wonder if they simply need to give my account authorization to that channel, although i would than think that my nox would say not authorized if this were to be the case.

I have a feeling that this will take some time to resolve, but any input from other subscribers would be great.. in order to isolate the area and issue at hand.

#DTV or not.. anyone with an hd box please go to channel 900 and please let me know if your channel is also black. or more importantly.. in the North York Region anywhere near yonge and steeles, bathurst and finch.. check it out and let me know.

I am very excited about this.

ROGERS - step it up a bit and lets get this 3d tgv stuff going. If it is anything near as good as PS3 3d games.. i cant wait.

Some of you already know that Rogers Cable has a channel (channel 900 in Toronto) dedicated to the new 3DTV format.

ANYONE with an HD box can access and view the feed coming in from this channel. It will display Side-by-Side. Which is like watching one chann, but the screen is duplicated, and put beside each other.

Anyone with a 3d television can simply set their TV to side-by-side and you will be able to view the channel in actual 3d (with your 3d glasses of course)

The channel supposedly is running a 10-20 minute viedo, being looped over and over. I can only asume that if rogers has something for viewers to watch such as a sporting event, they will put it on this channel.

*************** I have a 3dtv, and 2 hd boes. one pvr, and the other just a standard. When i go to the channel, all i get is a black screen.

ANYONE ELSE GETTING A BLACK SCREEN ONLY?? PLEASE POST YOUR LOCATION.

I am in the North York area of Toronto. It does not work in my building and rogers tech guy who was here thinks it might be the equipment at the base of our bulding that may need modification. I also tried one of my boxes at a friends house 2 km away. The box works perfect.. including the channel line up and subscriptions, but the channel 900 still is black.

Anyone in the North York/Toronto/Markham region, please let me know if this channel is working for you, or black screen. We need to get Rogers to realize that there new system is not fully working, and we need to get it fixed so more people will support this new media.

Remember. Anyone with an hd box should be able to see the video on the channel, it simply will not be in 3d.. yet... Its up to the tv at your end to do the rest. If we can figure out what areas/territories this is not working in, it may help them isolate the issue and find a fast fix.

3dtv ROCKS - everyone should own one.

I had heard that for the time being it will not work in an apartment building that has a lobby camera system - the lobby camera overrides where the channel is coming in. Is your friend also in an apartment building?

well from the last post.. the lobby cam makes no difference. But my friend lives in a house.

The tech guy said he would look at the building intake. And from there they will need to look further. But it seems that all of North York, or North Toronto is out. I live just north of Bathurst and finch. My friend lives a minute north of steels near Yong.

Maybe as more people post in this thread we will have some information to help rogers out. Since they seem more lost than we are. Its great how these companies offer something and when it is broken they have no clue how to fix it. I don't care how new this is. They should know how to repair their own systems. End of story.

Anyways.. come on guys.. more hd subscribers please test the 3dhd channel and let us know.. I also know that the channel does work since rogers themselves tell me that they are watching it on their test tv as we speak. and so are people in ottawa.. etc...

I also have it, Toronto, house near Yonge & Lawrence. I don't believe it was a lobby camera issue, it was a bandwidth issue in some areas, including apartments that are all digital (require a STB). I suppose it could also be some sort of provisioning/activation issue, depending on your location.

If Rogers believe you're supposed to have it, then a service call may be necessary.

Threads merged.

Hi,

Over the last ten years, whenever weve had HD reception issues, Rogers visiting techies in our condo suggested that there were two possible issues.

First, as customers in the building switched to digital more pressure was put on some mystical grid allocation per 4 floors in the building. This was solved by doing something at the box feeding the building.

Secondly, although they re-wired the interior of our unit feeding 2 HD PVRs, Home Phone and HighSpeed internet from RG 59 to RG 6 I think. We were told that the building is still RG 59. I am not sure how they solved that issue but no interior signal boosters were installed inside.

That said, ch900 is black screen. I do not have any 3D hardware.

well.. they were here yesterday.. reception is not the problem.

they called me back today, claiming that maintenance crews came by to check the issue out. They claim that when the channel was made. they had to pick a certain frequency that was available at the time, without having to alter many, if any channels at all.

They claim that the lobby cams are using a part of that frequency, and they gave me no final solution to the problem. they claim it was an oversight at the time, but that all of the north Toronto use this frequency for lobby cams, whereas supposedly the rest of the areas do not.

I cant get upset with the tech guy that relayed this message to me, i thank him for getting back to me.

The fact that they will not give me a resolution date, or what they are going to do about it is ridiculous.

I spend over 600.00 per month with them. If i cant get 3d for my 4000.00 television, than instead of moving, I will simply switch to anything but rogers.

And they will get a bold print copy of this thread too.

Can anyone verify that in other areas, with lobby cams, that this works. Anybody with a lobby cam, and an hd box..

Either way, they refused to give me an answer as to why it did not work at my friends place here in north york who has no lobby cam in his HOUSE.

Lets get to the bottom of this people.

Thanks for all the prior info guys.. dint forget to post your location in your message

p.s. I'm sure if they really wanted to, they could come up with a solution very quickly.
They more or less screwed all apartment dwellers.. as if we couldn't afford an hd TV in an apartment building, we lose out. They could have simply moved around a few porno/adult channels but i guess the pornography is more important than getting a channel setup that they know all the young kids and children would love...

Keep in mind.. more people than we know already have these 3d TV\s like me.

you do not need any 3d hardware to view the feed. it will simply be a double view one beside another. If you were to have the 3d television, it would convert and process the signal into an awesome 3d video

OK well... i want to thank all that replied and posted their locations.

As I wrote in a prior post, and confirming another users answer, the lobby cam is the problem. Now I dint know this for sure, but I will take their answer from the technical maintenance team.

This now means that Rogers Canada will be losing an extremely good customer. This goes to show what type of company we are dealing with. They will not give me an answer as to what they are going to do about it. Not even to say that they will have it fixed within 2 or 3 months. They simply said that this is what they figured out the problem to be, and that they have no resolution at this time.

I have cable (and every channel obtainable)
I have rogers home phone
I have rogers Ultimate INTERNET (100.00/month)
I have Rogers hp netbook with rocket built in and data plan.

As of Friday - unless they respond with a time line and a proper fix/resolution to this problem, I am canceling every service with rogers.

I have spoken with Bell already, and not only are they reassuring me that I will be fully supported by them and my 3d TV.

But once they saw how important of a client i should have been to rogers, they offered me quite an incentive to bring all of my services to them.

DirecTV in the USA has a few stations already, Shaw has one, Bell has one or two sometimes, and Rogers is not even willing to get it going for the North Toronto.

I used to pay them on average 500.00 per month. And this is the type of respect I get from them.

This should be a sign for everybody what type of company they are.

That being said... Anybody anywhere that has a HD box, and that lives in an apartment with a lobbycam, please test channel 900, and I want to know if this is north Toronto only, as rogers tech. told me, or if this is everywhere.

For those of us who have a black screen, are we missing out on actual content? Or is just a demo loop?
well. see, thats exactly the thing.

On any general day, it is a 10-20 minute loop. This could change at any minute.

Click here for the Rogers Redboard article where they stated that all subscribers with an HD box will enjoy the in your face action of the world cup in 3d/

The Toronto Star - an article about how Rogers and Shaw are committed to their clients and their need of 3d Television

With my issue, they claimed that since almost nobody had 3d TV's, it is not a priority at this time. Well if it isn't a priority at this present time (when every other cable company is trying to set up channels, when will be the time).

To them... the channel is useless, and boast nothing.. Well when they chose to put up more events once again me and all the others will not be able to access it, and we can only assume that it wont be fixed, because they stated that they can do nothing about it right now. Its either the lobby cam, or 3dtv.

So, for those of us that have a black channel, we will never know if and when they put on the odd 3d special, documentary, sporting event, or anything 3d.

Keep in mind Other companies like DirecTV are advertising on their website about the 3d channels that they are broadcasting, while my cable company "ROGERS" doesn't even care to get the channel accessible to its subscribers, let alone, get actual content on it.

This is not a good position that they just put themselves into on regards to my situation.

The fact that they dint care to resolve my issue about getting the channel, makes me have no faith that they even care to bring content, or broadcasters on their channel line up.

I used to be with Cogeco, and we had a similar issue years ago, but with other channels, i believe it was when High Def was just rolling in. Cogeco had Senior tech and management dealing with it, and fixed it within a week. Rogers claims they have no solution at this time, and they have nobody looking in to it either.

This all means that anybody in the North York area, that lives in an apartment that would like to purchase a 3D TV will go to Bell, Shaw, or any other system other than Rogers.

@noleng, I'm glad someone is picking a fight with Rogers over this. I'm in Markham and have the same issue - channel 900 is black. I'm in a townhouse attached to a condo so the signal is going through the main condo switch and may be affected by the same 'security cam' problem.

However I did have a similar issue with a different channel and after several rounds of system changes and tech visits Rogers did something on the main condo switch to enable it. Channel 900 is likely a different issue though given how widespread it is but I'll keep bugging Rogers over this.

Do you know what content is available @ Bell on their 3D channel?
