Should I add a 1 prefix for all my contacts in my iphone? It would save hearing the annoying "this is a long distance..." message when speed dialing.

i.e. instead of (519)555-1212, put it in as 1 (519)555-1212

I just am hoping that I won't be charged long distance if it turns out that the number is 'local' to my present calling area.....

I use less than 100 of my 200 included local minutes per month.

i have my BB setup to automatically add the 1 prefix and have never been billed long distance for local calls. so yes, I would recommend doing it for your contacts.

After all, you will never here "This is a local call, please hang up and dial again without using the prefix 1"

You will here "The number you are calling is not a local number, please hang up and dial 1 then the number you wish to call"

Cheers

Correct. You can safely add the 1 before the number on a cell phone. All my contacts are like that as well. :)
