Analyst estimates 250,000 Playbooks have been sold

In a research note sent to clients, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky is reporting that Research in Motion (RIM) has sold 250,000 Playbooks since its launch on April 19th.

The tablet computer went on-sale April 19th at more than 20,000 retail locations in the United States and Canada, just days after the launch of the Motorola android powered Xoom tablet and three weeks after the launch of the Apple iPad 2 tablet.

Gartner predicts 70 million tablets will be sold this year

The worldwide market for tablet computers is expected to climb almost fourfold in 2011 according to a recent report from Gartner.

The research firm estimates 70 million tablets will be sold this year, up from 17.6 million in 2010. The firm also predicts sales of 294 million by 2015.

Xoom WiFi now for sale in Canada

The Motorola Xoom WiFi, an Android-based tablet computer expected to compete with the Apple iPad, is now available for purchase online from Best Buy and Future Shop, and will be available in-stores across the country beginning Friday April 8th.

Introduced at CES 2011 in January, the Xoom is the first tablet computer to run Android 3.0 codenamed Honeycomb, the tablet version of Android.

RIM Playbook goes on sale April 19th

Research in Motion’s (RIM) PlayBook tablet computer will go on-sale at more than 20,000 retail locations in the United States and Canada on April 19th, the company announced today.

The PlayBook goes on sale in Canada just days after the launch of the Motorola android powered Xoom tablet and three weeks after the launch of the Apple iPad 2 tablet.
