TSN Radio coming to Winnipeg and Montreal on October 5th

Bell Media has announced that, effective Wednesday October 5th, radio station The Team 990 in Montreal will be rebranded as TSN Radio 990 while Sports Radio 1290 in Winnipeg will be renamed TSN Radio 1290.

The rebranding comes six months after Bell launched TSN Radio 1050 in Toronto.

TSN Jets channels premieres tonight

TSN Jets, a new specialty channel dedicated to the Winnipeg Jets hockey team, premieres tonight when the Jets take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in front of a capacity crowd at the MTS Centre.

The pay channel will be available to almost half a million homes in the Winnipeg Jets broadcast region which includes Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, plus parts of Northwestern Ontario including Kenora, Dryden and Thunder Bay.

MTS TV now offering NHL Centre Ice package

MTS has announced that subscriptions to the NHL Centre Ice sports programming package are now available on its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service

For $200, MTS Ultimate TV subscribers will be able to view up to 40 out-of-market games a week throughout the 2011-12 regular season.

Winnipeg Jets broadcasts on Sports Radio 1290 and new TSN Jets channel

True North Sports & Entertainment and Bell Media have announced a ten year agreement awarding the regional television broadcast rights for the Winnipeg Jets to TSN, and the radio broadcast rights for the hockey club to Sports Radio 1290.

As part of the agreement, TSN will broadcast more than 60 regional regular season and pre-season games each season to fans in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and parts of Northwestern Ontario on the new specialty channel “TSN Jets.”

Newcap sells two Winnipeg Radio stations for $5.5 million

Newcap, owners of 81 radio stations across Canada, has announced it will sell its two radio stations in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Dufferin Communications Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Evanov Radio Group.

Evanov will pick up CKJS AM and CHNK FM for $5.5 million.

Winnipeg gets its first OTA DTV Channel

CKND-DT, an Over-the-Air (OTA) high definition digital version of CKND-TV in Winnipeg, went live on December 16th in the city.

The Global Television affiliate is operating on channel 40.1 with an average effective radiated power (ERP) of 14,900 watts.

MTS TV adds seven multicultural channels to lineup

MTS TV, Canada’s largest Internet Protocol television (IPTV) service provider, has announced the addition of seven new multicultural channels to its lineup.

New channels are available to both Classic TV and Ultimate TV subscribers and include Sony Entertainment Television Asia, TV Polonia, TLN en Espanol, RTR Planeta, ProSiebenSat. 1 Welt, Talentvision and Rai Italia.

Winnipeg’s Hank FM becomes K-Rock

Yesterday at 6 a.m., Winnipeg’s country music station Hank FM, at 100.7 on the dial, became K-Rock 100.7.

Playlist on the new station includes classic rock (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Neil Young, and Van Halen); Blues (John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Eric Clapton); and stuff in between (Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Steve Earle).
