Netflix announces original series “Lilyhammer”

“Lilyhammer,” a fish-out-of-water story set in Norway and starring “The Sopranos” mainstay Steven Van Zandt, premieres on Netflix on February 6th.

Van Zandt, also a guitarist in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, plays Frank Tagliano who is a former member of the New York mob. After testifying in a trial in the United States, Tagliano is relocated to Lillehammer in Norway through the FBI’s witness protection program

Season four of Merlin premieres on Space this Saturday

Season 4 of the medieval fantasy series Merlin premieres this Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. ET, on Space.

The series follows the young wizard Merlin (Colin Morgan) as he discovers his gift of magic, working under the tutelage of court physician Gaius (Richard Wilson). Merlin must hide his developing skills as King Uther (Anthony Head) has banned magic in his kingdom, punishable by death.

HBO Canada highlights for January

HBO Canada subscribers can look forward to a number of programming premieres on the pay television channel in January including Angry Boys, Luck, the season three premiere of Less than Kind, the tenth season of Bill Maher and a new sports documentary series which focuses on the life of Freddie Roach, the world-famous boxing trainer who owns and operates the famed Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.

Neverland Mini-series airs on Space HD beginning this Sunday

Neverland, a British adventure/fantasy miniseries shot in Ireland and Italy, will air on Space and Space HD in Canada beginning this Sunday night.

The series is a prequel to the Classic Peter Pan story and stars Rhys Ifans as James Hook, Bob Hoskins as Smee, Charlie Rowe as Peter Pan, and Keira Knightley as the voice of Tinker Bell.

HBO Canada to replay “The Wire” Season One

If you never watched HBO’s critically acclaimed television show “The Wire” when it first aired, then be sure to mark December 15th at 8pm on your calendar.

The Wire is an American television crime drama series set and produced in and around Baltimore, Maryland which aired on HBO for five seasons ending in March of 2008.

Madonna will headline Super Bowl XLVI halftime show

The National Football League (NFL) announced today that Madonna will perform in the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime show which takes place Sunday, February 5th. Madonna’s performance will be imagined by Cirque du Soleil and Jamie King.

The league says the Super Bowl halftime show, which will be broadcast worldwide, will be the most-watched musical event of the year. More than 162 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year’s show.

RDS2 launches on Vidéotron Cable

RDS2, a secondary feed of the Canadian French language specialty channel RDS, is available starting today on the Vidéotron cable system in both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD).

Vidéotron is the first Quebec cable operator to carry the channel which launched in the first week of October. Previously the station had only been available on Bell Fibe, Bell Satellite, Shaw Direct.

Rogers Media secures Canadian broadcast rights to The Ulimate Fighter

Rogers Media has secured the Canadian rights to The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), an American reality television series and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition.

The show, which follows unknown, professional MMA fighters as they train and compete against each other in order to secure a contract with the UFC, will air Friday nights on FX Canada beginning next March.
