Microsoft calls Xbox 360 update the “Future of TV”

Microsoft this week will roll out a firmware update for the Xbox 360 Video game console which the company is calling the “Future of TV.”

According to the software giant, the updated firmware will usher in a “new era in entertainment” giving Xbox owners “A single box that ties together all the content you want, made easily accessible through a universal, natural, voice-directed search.”

Updated EastLink PVR firmware lets users add additional storage

Years after it was made available to consumers on many cable and satellite systems across Canada, Eastlink has updated its PVR firmware so customers with eSATA capable PVRs can add an external hard drive for additional program storage.

Corel releases service pack for VideoStudio Pro X4

Ottawa based Corel Corporation today announced a free service pack for VideoStudio Pro X4, its consumer video-editing software for Windows.

Features of the software update include improved H.264 file conversion quality and MPEG-4 quality, greater support for digital 8 and Hi8 cameras, faster performance for filters and increased performance with AMD Fusion and second generation Intel microprocessors.

iTunes 9.1 adds support for iPad

With just three days to the launch of the iPad, Apple has released iTunes 9.1 which brings support for the new device.

The new software comes with several new features and improvements, including the ability to: sync music, video and apps with an iPad, organize and sync books downloaded from iBooks; rename, rearrange, or remove Genius mixes.

Rogers Cable guide update fails to satisfy customers

Rogers Cable today rolled out a minor revision to its Quickstart marketing menu after complaints from digital cable customers in Ontario.

The update introduces a new menu option on Rogers set top boxes which allows users to change the order in which the QuickStart menu appears.

Windows Home Server PP3 update finally arrives next week

On the Windows Home Server Blog today, Microsoft announced that its long overdue Windows Home Server (WHS) Power Pack 3 (PP3) will be available on November 24, 2009.

Earlier this year members of the Microsoft Home Server had told Digital Home the new update would be available no later than the Windows 7 general availability date of October 22nd.
