Two new Montreal Radio stations approved by CRTC

In broadcasting decisions handed down today, the CRTC has approved two new AM radio stations for the Montreal market. The federal regulator approved a French-language mainly spoken word station focusing on news and public affairs at 990 kHz and a French-language spoken word and musical station for Montreal’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual community at 940KHz.

The Commission also approved an application from Bell Media for a frequency change for its TSN radio station (CKGM), from 990 kHz to 690 kHz.

TSN Radio coming to Winnipeg and Montreal on October 5th

Bell Media has announced that, effective Wednesday October 5th, radio station The Team 990 in Montreal will be rebranded as TSN Radio 990 while Sports Radio 1290 in Winnipeg will be renamed TSN Radio 1290.

The rebranding comes six months after Bell launched TSN Radio 1050 in Toronto.

Toronto’s Fan 590 boosts its audience in April

Toronto sport radio station, The FAN 590 enjoyed a strong April, jumping to a 6.3 share among their core demographic Men 25-54, the highest share of tuning this year. This is an increase from a 5.2 share in March.

The numbers are especially strong considering Bell turned its CP24 radio at 1050 kHz on the AM band in Toronto into TSN Radio 1050 in the middle of the month.

Toronto’s CP24 Radio flips to TSN Radio 1050 this week

Beginning at 5:30 am on Wednesday April 13th, CP24 Radio broadcasting at 1050 kHz on the AM band in Toronto will become TSN Radio 1050. The all-sports radio station will compete head on with Rogers Sportsnet Radio FAN 590.

Toronto’s Fan590 announces new morning crew

Greg Brady and Jim Lang will be new morning hosts of The FAN 590 morning show in Toronto. The pair will be on-air Monday to Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sportsnet Radio.

Brady joined Sportsnet Radio The FAN 590 after a two-year stint as co-host of The Bill Watters Show on Talk Radio AM 640. Brady was previously a co-host at WDFN in Detroit from 2002-2007. Lang has been with Sportsnet since 2003 in various roles including as a news anchor, reporter and writer.

TSN Radio 1050 goes live in April

CTVglobemedia, owners of TSN and Chum Radio, today announced that TSN Radio 1050 will launch in Toronto on Wednesday, April 13th competing head on with Sportsnet Radio FAN 590.

Headlining the all-sports radio station will be Mike Richards who will host the morning drive show after performing similar duties in Calgary.
