Rogers and Bell announce deal to buy 75% of MLSE

Bell Canada and Rogers Communications announced today they have agreed to purchase a 75% ownership position in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) from Ontario Teachers Pension Plan. Each company will own a 37.5% equity interest.

MLSE is Canada’s largest sports and entertainment company and owners of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto Marlies and Toronto FC.

Bell secures Canadian broadcast rights to FIFA World Cup thru 2022

Bell Media and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) have announced a deal which gives Bell exclusive Canadian broadcast rights to 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.

The agreement means FIFA World Cup coverage in Canada will air in English on CTV, TSN and in French on RDS. Bell also secured mobile and internet streaming rights for Canada.

Score secures English language rights to Copa América

Score Media announced today that it has secured the English language Canadian broadcast rights to Copa América. Spanish language broadcasts will air on TLN.

The Copa América (Spanish and Portuguese for “America Cup”), is Latin Americas biggest football event featuring the best soccer teams from twelve countries in Latin America, including the host country Argentina and defending champion Brazil.

Sportsnet inks three year deal with Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Rogers Sportsnet has inked a three-year agreement with Vancouver Whitecaps FC that will see the specialty station broadcast twenty-one regular season matches this season and twenty four games in 2012 and 2013.

For this years campaign, Rogers Sportsnet Pacific and Rogers Sportsnet One will broadcast 20 of the 21 games, all in high definition.

Vancouver Whitecaps games now available on Bell Mobility

Bell Mobility said today that it will offer all of this seasons Vancouver Whitecaps FC matches as part to of its Mobile TV sports package.

Fans can watch the games by purchasing Bell’s Mobile TV sports package. The package is $5 per month which includes ten hours of viewing. Additional usage is billed at a rate of $1 per hour.

CBC and Rogers to air Women’s World Cup of Soccer

CBC Sports and Rogers Sportsnet announced last week that the two networks will join forces in June to broadcast every match of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup of soccer.

The competition begins Sunday, June 26, with Canada opening the tournament against host Germany, and ends with the final on June 17th.

TSN signs six year deal with Major League Soccer

TSN, Canada’s top rated Sports specialty channel, and Major League Soccer (MLS) this week announced a six-year broadcast rights agreement which will make TSN the official broadcaster of MLS in Canada.

The Canadian broadcast agreement begins this year and runs through to the 2016 season. Under the terms of the deal TSN and TSN2 will broadcast 24 MLS regular season matches this season featuring Canadian teams Toronto FC and/or Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Manchester United Football Club games coming to Sirius XM

Manchester United Football Club, the 18-time champions of the English Premier League, and Sirius XM Radio announced today a multi-year agreement to make Sirius XM the official U.S. radio broadcaster of the famed football club.

The deal means Sirius and XM subscribers will have access to live play-by-play of every Manchester United match and will hear the official Manchester United club broadcast. All games will air on Sirius channels 125 and 113 and XM channels 241 and 244.
