SiriusXM promotion targets former customers

In emails sent to former satellite radio subscribers, SiriusXM in the U.S and Canada is offering lapsed customers free access to sixty channels for two weeks starting August 30th.

The free channels include a variety of commercial free music, sports, news and entertainment stations. Sorry no Stern!

BBC Radio 1 returns on Sirius XM Internet Radio only

One week after it suddenly dropped BBC Radio 1 from its satellite radio line-up, Sirius XM has announced it will offer the British pop station through its Internet radio service.

Sirius XM internet radio is a add-on service in the in the U.S. which costs users an additional $2.99 per month. With it users can listen to Sirius stations through their computer, smartphone or standalone internet radios.

Sirius XM drops BBC Radio 1

Without any notice, subscription satellite radio provider Sirius XM has dropped BBC Radio 1 from its line-up as of 12:00 AM this morning.

BBC Radio 1 is a national radio station operated out of the U.K. by the British Broadcasting Corporation which broadcasts current popular music and chart hits throughout the day.

Sirius Canada updates iOS app

An updated version of Sirius Canada’s iPhone and iPod Touch app is now available on the iTunes Canada app store.

Version 1.1, the first update since the app was launched in November 2009, includes support for iOS 4 multitasking.

Sirius Canada: What happened to all its customers?

Sirius XM Canada this week reported pre-merger financial results for the second quarter ended May 31, 2011 which, for the first time ever, included actual customer subscriber counts for Sirius Canada.

In its results, Sirius XM reported that Sirius Canada had 866,430 subscribers at the end of May 2011, up from 744,000 at the end of February 2011.

XM Canada and Sirius Canada to merge on June 21st

XM Canada and Sirius Canada said this week they will merge on June 21st after having received the final regulatory and government approvals for the deal.

The merger comes five and a half years after the two organizations began offering satellite radio service in this country.

Sirius XM overhauling its channel line-up on May 4th

Subscription satellite radio provider Sirius XM has announced that its channel line-ups on both Sirius and XM radio will be reshuffled on May 4th.

The most notable change is that virtually all of the stations will have the same channel number whether you are tuned to a Sirius radio or an XM Radio. Sirius XM says some differences will remain between the Sirius and XM channel offerings due to technical reasons or agreements with content providers.

Sirius XM to broadcast horse racing’s Triple Crown

Sirius XM Radio and the Horse Racing Radio Network (HRRN) this week announced an agreement which would see all all three races of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown broadcast on Sirius XM.

Subscription satellite radio listeners will hear HRRN’s broadcast of the 137th Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 7, the 136th Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 21, and the 143rd Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 11. All three race broadcasts will air live starting at 5:00 pm ET
