Rogers buys SCN and will launch CityTV Saskatchewan

Rogers Communications this week announced its intent to acquire a 100 per cent stake in Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN) and launch CityTV Saskatchewan.

Originally created by the Saskatchewan government as a commercial free educational channel, the station was bought last year by private concerns who aired Commercial-free educational and cultural programming between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. local time and commercial programming from the mid-afternoon on.

Primus Canada expands VoIP service area

Primus Canada today announced a major expansion of its Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone services.

The company says its VoIP services are now available in an additional 240 exchanges across Canada, specifically in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.

SCN Saskatchewan’s Education Channel goes commercial

Starting September 12th, the Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN) has a new look, a new schedule and according to the station’s owners, a new approach to broadcasting.

Sasktel launching LTE in 2012

SaskTel announced last week that it had it has begun work on Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology planning, infrastructure development and internal system work with a goal of starting deployment in 2012. The company says the first phase of deployment will start in the fall of next year in Regina and Saskatoon and surrounding areas.

Saskatchewan to get a new area code in 2013

In a Telecom decision handed down today, the CRTC has announced that that starting on May 11, 2013, 10-digit local dialing – the area code followed by the seven-digit phone number- will be required for all local calls made in Saskatchewan, except for calls made from Kinoosao or Uranium City.

The introduction of 10-digit dialing will pave the way for a new area code, 639, in May 25, 2013.

Sasktel offers iPad 2 data plans

SaskTel, providers of wireless service to over half a million customers in Saskatchewan, announced last week that it is now offering two dedicated data plans for the iPad 2.

MTS and Sasktel to launch iPhone 4 on April 26th

Almost ten months after it was first released, Sasktel and MTS have announced they will begin offering the iPhone 4 on Tuesday April 26th.

Rogers High speed network now covers 97% of Manitoba

Rogers Wireless announced today the expansion of its high speed HSPA+ wireless network in Manitoba.

The announcement means 97 per cent of the Manitoba population will have access to data download speeds of up to 21 megabits per second.
