FX Canada launches tonight on Rogers and Eastlink Cable

FX Canada, a Canadianized version of Fox Entertainment’s FX Channel, will launch tonight at 9 p.m. with a Halloween viewing of American Horror Story, a “psycho-sexual thriller” from the producers of Nip/Tuck and Glee, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

FX Canada announces programming highlights

Rogers Media today announced the highlights of its programming line-up for FX Canada which launches at the end of this month.

Kicking off launch night on the Canadianized version of Fox Entertainment’s FX Channel will be a new show called American Horror Story, a “psycho-sexual thriller” from the producers of Nip/Tuck and Glee, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

Sportsnet World inks 4 year deal for major international cricket events

Sportsnet World, formerly known as Setanta Canada, this week announced a four-year agreement with ESPN STAR Sports for all International Cricket Council events through 2015 on multiple Sportsnet platforms.

The Canadian media agreement includes eight major international tournaments, leading up to the world’s premiere cricket event – the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

NFL kicks off 2011-12 season on NBC

The 92nd regular season of the National Football League begins tonight on NBC with the New Orleans Saints traveling to Lambeau Field, the home of the Super Bowl XLV champion Green Bay Packers. The last regular season game will be held on Sunday, January 1, 2012.

Rogers withdraws from consortium bidding for Olympic broadcast rights

Rogers today announced it will not pursue a bid for the Canadian broadcast rights to the 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games as part of Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.

“We had an option and chose not to exercise it.” said Rogers Media President Keith Pelley.

CityNews Channel begins on Rogers digital cable October 3rd

Rogers Media this week announced it will launch CityNews Channel, a 24/7 English language news station, on Rogers Cable channel number one on October 3rd.

Much of the programming on CityNews Channel will be simulcasts of other CityTV shows. The channel will simulcast City TV’s Breakfast Television, CityNews, CityNews at Five, CityNews at Six, and CityNews Tonight.

FX Canada available November 1st

FX Canada, a Canadianized version of FX Channel in the United States, will be available to Canadian broadcast distributors as a digital specialty channel on November 1st. Launched in June of 1994, FX is a division of News Corporation’s Fox Entertainment Group which is now available in just under 100 million American homes.

Rogers to launch Sportsnet Magazine this fall

Rogers Media has announced it will launch Sportsnet Magazine in October of this year.

The company says the national bi-weekly sports magazine will focus on the major professional leagues and the premier amateur events, with particular focus on the teams and players which interest Canadians the most.
