Sportsnet inks three year deal with Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Rogers Sportsnet has inked a three-year agreement with Vancouver Whitecaps FC that will see the specialty station broadcast twenty-one regular season matches this season and twenty four games in 2012 and 2013.

For this years campaign, Rogers Sportsnet Pacific and Rogers Sportsnet One will broadcast 20 of the 21 games, all in high definition.

Rogers gets approval for seven new Specialty TV channels

In a series of broadcasting decisions handed down over the last week, the CRTC has approved applications by Rogers Broadcasting for seven new national English language category 2 specialty channels.

Category 2 channels are stations licensed by the CRTC to broadcast within defined formats but are not guaranteed cable or satellite television carriage rights.

Weekend News on CityTV Toronto returns in March

Rogers Broadcasting announced this week the return of CityNews on weekends in Toronto.

The show along with CityNews at Noon, CityOnline and CityNews at Five was cancelled by Rogers in early 2010. Rogers said the cancellation was due to “shifting viewer patterns coupled with the overall state of the economy.”

CRTC approves CKVU Digital TV station in Vancouver

In Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2010-108 issued today, the CRTC has approved an application by Rogers Broadcasting Limited to operate a transitional digital television station associated with CKVU-TV Vancouver.

In its application, Rogers has proposed to simulcast the programming aired on CKVU-TV on the new digital station. The Commission did not receive any interventions in connection with this application.
