New Playstation 3 firmware supports PS Vita

Sony this week is releasing new firmware (Version 4.0) for its Playstation 3 video game console which will enable the device to act as a content management server the Playstation Vita.

The PlayStation Vita, also known as “PSVita” or “PSV,” is the upcoming handheld game console from Sony which is set to be released in Japan and parts of Asia on December 17, 2011 and in Europe and North America on February 22, 2012.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 first day sales top $400 million

First day sales of Activision Blizzard’s “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” video game topped $400 million in the United States and the United Kingdom. Citing Charttrack and retail customer sell-through information, Activision said more than 6.5 million units were sold in the first 24 hours of its release.

Call of Duty tops video gamers most wanted list

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 tops the list of North American gamers most wanted console video game this holiday season according to a recent report by ratings giant Nielsen.

The upcoming first-person shooter video game will be the third installment in the Modern Warfare series, a direct sequel to 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and the eighth Call of Duty installment.

Sony admits hackers stole subscribers personal information

After six days of near silence, Sony admitted today that its Playstation Online Network was the victim of hackers and that much and perhaps all of its account holders personal information had been stolen.

On the Sony Playstation blog, the company admitted that between April 17th and April 19th, its user account information was compromised.

Playstation outage now into its 5th day

Last Wednesday April 20th, Sony abruptly shut down its Playstation Network and Qriocity services leaving more than 75 million customers people without access to either service.

On Thursday, the company said they were investigating the network outage and expected to have everything back up and running within a day. On Friday, the company admitted the online services had been hacked and would remain shut down.

New PS3 Models feature more storage space

In a corporate blog posting this week, Sony has announced that it will introduce two new higher capacity models of the PS3 system.

The new 160GB and 320GB PS3 systems will offer approximately 33% more storage at price points comparable to existing units.
