New smartphone apps let Optik TV subscribers watch shows on their iOS and Android devices

Telus this week released new Android, iPhone and iPad apps which gives their IPTV customers the ability to watch On Demand shows on their iPhone or iPad over a WiFi connection.

Optik TV customers will be able to choose from hundreds of VOD titles from channels like Super Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, Hollywood Suite and Family.

Sasktel adds Hollywood Suite to its IPTV line-up

Almost a month after it was originally supposed to be launched, IPTV provider Sasktel has added the Hollywood Suite of high definition (HD) movie channels to its line-up with a free preview.

Sasktel TV subscribers will be able to watch: Warner Films and MGM Channel which air movies from the respective studios libraries; Hollywood Storm which will air action and adventure films; and Hollywood Festival which will air independent and major studio romance and relationship films.

MTS TV rolls out new channels and line-up

MTS TV today began rolling out a large number of changes to its television line-up including the addtion of over 25 new channels, 18 of which are in high definition.

The IPTV television provider is also offering free previews for Sports TV Americas, the Miracle Channel, Tumble Books, Games 4TV and Hollywood Suite.

Bell jacking up prices of Phone, Internet and TV in New Year

Telecommunications giant Bell Canada this week began notifying consumers that it is raising phone, internet and television rates in the New Year.

Effective January 1st, 2012, Bell is raising television rates by $3 a month, phone rates by $2 a month and internet rates by $2 per month plus the maximum usage overage fee will be increased by $20.

Number of Telus TV subscribers up 70% in last year

In financial results released today, Telus announced that as of September 30, 2011, the company had 453,000 television subscribers in Western Canada.

That number is up 70.3% from 266,000 at September 30, 2010 and up more than 230% from 137,000 on September 30, 2009.

Net Income at Telus up 30% in recent quarter

Telus Corporation today reported its financial results and subscriber counts for the third quarter of 2011.

The company reported operating revenues of $2.6 billion for the quarter, up 6.5% from the same quarter a year earlier. Net income $326 million, up a whopping 30% from $251 million in same period a year earlier driven by three non-recurring items. Adjusted for the non-recurring items, net income was still up by 12% over the third Quarter of 2010.

MTS TV now offering NHL Centre Ice package

MTS has announced that subscriptions to the NHL Centre Ice sports programming package are now available on its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service

For $200, MTS Ultimate TV subscribers will be able to view up to 40 out-of-market games a week throughout the 2011-12 regular season.
