BBC iPlayer app and Video service now available in Canada

The global BBC iPlayer App, a unique video on demand (VOD) pilot subscription service available on the iPad, is now available in Canada.

Now available in sixteen countries outside of the U.K, the subscription services lets viewers watch shows from an extensive archive of award-winning classic and contemporary British TV programming.

Encyclopaedia Britannica now available on iPad and iPhone

Following a recent iPad announcement, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc. announced today its encyclopedia is now available as an iPhone App through the Apple App Store.

The Britannica App gives iOS users the ability to find information and explore subjects which has been researched and edited by professional editors and expert contributors.

Year to date: HP top seller of tablets in U.S. after Apple

U.S. tablet sales, excluding iPad sales, reached 1.2 million units for the first ten months of 2011 according to a recent report from the NPD Group.

Surprisingly, HP, which released its WebOS powered Touchpad tablet in July and cancelled it in August, was the number one seller with a 17% market share or just over 200,000 units.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 now on sale in Canada

First announced at Mobile World Conference in February, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, an Android 3.1 tablet expected to compete with the Apple iPad, is now available in Canada.

The WiFi enabled tablet, which is under 9 millimeters think and weights under one and a half pounds, features a 10.1-inch HD touchscreen display with WXGA 1280 x 800 resolution; 1GHZ dual core processor; a 3 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front camera; and 16GB of flash memory.

Apple now the global leader in sales of mobile computers

Apple surpassed HP in worldwide sales of mobile computers in the second quarter of 2011 according to a recent report by Displaysearch.

The research company is reporting that shipments of Apple mobile computers surpassed 13.5 million units in the April to June timeframe, an increase of 136% over the same period of 2010.

Mobile devices and Tablets now account for 5% of Internet browsing

Mobile devices and tablet computers accounted for over 5% of all browsing on the internet and over 8.2% in the United States in June 2011 according to the latest global internet browsing numbers from NetMarketShare.

The share of internet browsing on these devices is more than double the 2% market share recorded in June 2010.

Toshiba’s Android Tablet arrives in Canada in August

Toshiba Canada said today that its first Android powered tablet computer will go on-sale in Canada beginning in August.

Powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and Android 3.1 Honeycomb, Toshiba’s tablet will feature a 10.1-inch multi-touch LED backlit display, front and rear facing cameras, virtual keyboard, speakers, and support for Adobe Flash.

Apple to unveil Mac OS X Lion and iOS 5 at WWDC

In a written statement released today, Apple has announced it would introduce Mac OS X Lion, iOS and its new iCloud service at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on Monday, June 6.

WWDC is a conference held annually in California by Apple. The conference is used by Apple to showcase its new software and technologies for developers, as well as offering hands-on labs and feedback sessions.
