How an HTPC and Video Redo have improved my television viewing experience

While I have dabbled with Over-the-Air (OTA) television for years I never really spent much time exploring it because I was either subscribing to Rogers Cable or Bell ExpressVu (now called Bell Satellite TV) for my television service.

As one of Canada’s first personal video recorder (PVR ) users, I was content for many years to simple call up the cable or satellite company’s Electronic Program guide and press record and watch my shows at a later date.

SlingPlayer app now available on Boxee Box

D-Link and D-Link have announced the addition of a Slingplayer application for Boxee Box which lets users “sling” content from the Slingbox to the media extender.

Similar to the Slingplayer software for your PC, the SlingPlayer app lets Boxee users control any digital cable box, satellite receiver, or DVR that is connected to their Slingbox Solo or PRO-HD.

New Toshiba laptop delivers 3D without the glasses

Toshiba announced today that its Qosmio F750 laptop which lets users view 3D content without the need for 3D glasses is now available in Canada.

Features of the new laptop include an Intel Core i7 processor, Nvidia 3D graphics, 750 GB Hard drive, 8GB of RAM, Harmon Kardon stereo speakers, USB 3.0 connectivity and a Blu-ray drive.

Lenbrook, distributors of NAD products in Canada, has announced the NAD C 446 Digital Media Player is now available in Canada.

The Media players enables owners to stream AM/FM radio, internet radio or music from a networked computer, hard drive, Apple or Android smartphone to their home theatre system.

eMachines introduces Mini-e nettop computer

Hoping to cash in on increasing demand for small form nettop computers which can be used primarily in the home theatre, emachines today introduced the Mini-e Home Entertainment Center.

Similar to the popular Acer Revo, the Mini-e is about the size, weight and thickness of a small book. It features a glossy black diamond shaped chassis mounted on a matte silver pedestal while emitting a soft ambient green glow along the lower edge.

DivX Plus V8 available as free download

DivX today announced that version eight of the company’s DivX Plus Software is now available as a free download.

The software package is comprised of four individual products: the Player, Web Player, Codec Pack, and the DivX Plus Converter.
