Report: Apple to ship 95 million iPhones in 2011

The Digitimes is reporting to today that Apple has increased its orders for iPhones for the second half of this year to 56 million units, an increase of just under 13%.

Quoting Taiwan based supply chain members, the publication is now predicting the total number of iPhones shipped in 2011 will reach 95 million units.

Global Smartphone sales up 74% in second quarter

Over 107 million smartphones were sold in the second quarter of 2011, up 74% from 62 million in the same quarter a year earlier, according to a recent report by Gartner.

During the second quarter, smartphone sales accounted for 25% of the 429 million mobile device sold worldwide. That number was up substantially from the same quarter of 2010 when smartphones accounted for 17% of the 368 million mobile phone devices sold.

Global PC sales top 85 million units in second quarter

Global sales of personal computers reached 85.2 million units in the second quarter of 2011, a 2.3 percent increase from the same period last year according to a recent report from Gartner.

One in four HDTVs sold in 2011 will be Internet enabled

About 60 million or 25% of all televisions sold worldwide in 2011 will come with some form or internet connectivity according to recent report from Display Search.

The reseach firm predicts the number of Internet enabled televisions sold will rise to 138 million units in 2015, accounting for just under half of all flat panels sold.

Global Smartphone sales expected to top 472 million this year

Worldwide Sales of Smartphones is expected to increase 55 percent in 2011 according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracking report. The firm predicts 472 million smartphones will be shipped in 2011 compared to roughly 305 million units shipped in 2010

Smartphone sales are expected to nearly double from 2011 to 982 million units by the end of 2015.

Almost 100 Million Smartphones sold in first quarter of 2011

In the first quarter of 2011, worldwide smartphone sales totaled 99.6 million units, up 79.7% from the 55.4 million units in the first quarter of 2010 according to a recent report from IDC.

The research firm attributes the rapid increase in sales to a combination of more mid-range and entry-level offerings and lower pricing.

Flat Panel TV sales growth expected to grow 4% in 2011

Global television sales grew by nearly 18 percent in 2010, however, that sales growth is expected to cool to just 4 percent growth in 2011 according to a recent report from DisplaySearch.

The firm says many developed countries have now have high rates of flat panel adoption so the total TV market is increasingly defined by the replacement of CRT TVs with flat panel TVs. Flat panel TVs grew 32% in 2010 on a unit basis, but that growth will slow to 12% in 2011.

Worldwide Computer sales drop in first quarter

Worldwide s PC shipments totalled 84.3 million units in the first three months of 2011, a 1.1 percent decline from the first quarter of 2010, according to a recent report by Gartner.

While the first quarter is typically a slow one for computer sales, the weak sales, especially among consumers, suggest the decline was more than just a seasonal slowdown.
